I had a hang on the back style refuge on my 75gal reef and was not impressed with it really not big enothe to do any good on a 75 or larger tank but works great on my 20gal QT tank as a biofilter.
have you thought about getting a 20gal long tank and a few sheets of glass and making a refuge/wetdry alowing you to remove your wetdry sump and use the 20gal instead

If your gonna get one for free then you have nothing to lose just dont rely on it as your primarry sorce fo filtration since it wont be adiquate enothe IMO.
Just one question why cant you keep the wetdry arent you gonna keep the stand to set the tank on?

no not really. the tank was gonna go on top of this tough desk thats in my room and has no room for the filter. and yea ive been thinking about a 20 long but idk. if i do that i rather stay with the wetdry.

i just came back from my lfs and tested the water and my nitrate was really high like by 80s. i really dont know why, i freak out. so i hurry home and try to fix the problem. i did a water change and hopefully it fixes the problem. and also i change everything.

Keep in mind that a 75 full of water, sand and LR weighs around 1000 pounds. No matter how beefy you think the desk or table is, it probably won't support the tank- and believe me- a 75 makes one hail of a mess when it breaks. As for the 'fuge, I agree that a HOB model is too small, unless you are using it in addition to a sump.
