:) drkegel. My thoughts exactly. Etiquette for writing on the internet is not to use all caps. All caps are used to indicate you are mad and yelling, or trying to emphasize a word.
Marinerock, I have not kept a FO tank. However, I think the majority of people on this forum strive to keep things as natural as possible, and so probably don't maintain levels of copper.

ow! ouch! my ears! stop that :D and I can't go outside, I'm at work. You are right though, it really isn't a big deal, just a socially accepted common courtesy.

Yeah me too. Guess we should be WORKING! Oh... back to the original question.
To keep enough of a copper level to be effective against parasitic diseases you could likely be doing damage to the fishes internal organs because of prolonged exposure to copper. I would try more natural methods like better water filtration, food supplements, a good varied diet, and maybe some cleaners if your tank permits.

you helped us out the other day when we lost our french i dont know if you read the latest post but it wasnt from the copper it was from her not eating
i did put the carbon back in and the ick is getting really bad again now we have black ick too
Any way i think the copper works good and i may have to try it again until i get my new order of medicine in to try
look at it this way if the ick is really bad and you tried everything else then i see no wrong with using it

I HOPE I HELPED YOU OUT....I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THE
COPPER TREATMENT....
IF YOU USE COPPER....TRY "MARDEL COPPER SAFE"...IT IS
ONLY SUPPOSE TO LAST 30 DAYS IN YOUR TANK....IT IS CHELATED COPPER, WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO BE SAFER.....ALSO,
I DID A HYPOSALINITY TO 1.015 AND I STILL HAVE NOT RAISED
IT BACK UP YET....I THINK I WILL LEAVE IT THERE TILL WE
ARE FINISHED ADDING FISH TO THE TANK...THE FISH LOOK GREAT
IN THE LOWER SALINITY ANYWAY....LESS STRESS ON THEM....
THEY DONT HAVE TO FIGHT OFF THE HIGHER SALINITY.....
ALSO...IF I RECALL CORRECTLY...YOU HAVE A 125 LIKE MYSELF...
MARDEL COPPER SAFE COMES IN I BELEIVE 2 SIZES....
JUST GET THE ONE FOR 100 GALS...THAT IS SUFFICIENT...ABOUT
$5.OO.........
IF YOU NEED MORE INFO...JUST LET ME KNOW...

IMO....you should never put copper in a tank unless its a qt. you should find out why the fish are getting ich..or whatever the problem is, and try to take care of it that way..like bad water quaility, overstocked, fish not compatable,ect...if you have lr or ls and added copper, you probably killed all the values of both, maybe forever....

I guess I should have known better than to even suggest etiquette. I guess we should all just be rude and YELL AT EACH OTHER.
Sorry - but I'm a big fan of respecting other people, and one way to do that is to follow acceptable etiquette. I'm a big fan of etiquette in general, no matter where I am or who I'm with.

I never maintain a safe level. I think adding it on a routine basis could be bad for the fish. However I do hypo for sick fish in a qt and when I think hypo is not working after so long like a month then ill throw copper in the qt tank. I use it as a last resort.

peasly read my post in disease and treatment it sayd emergency french angel and you will understand what me and marine rock are talking about a little better it should be on page 3 or 4
thank you marine rock
i dont know if you tried this with your ick but i found out that it works really well it is called metronnidazole i just hate using it because you dont get much and it goes really fast in a 125
when we got ick in our reef one time i used it and it got rid of everything but i only used a little bit of it in our 125 because it cost alot but i went ahead and ordered 5 of them

you are talking about putting copper in a 125 or any show tank for that matter,...IMO... is wrong..all fish should be treated in qt and you should find the source of the problem, not just try to fix it...

There is no safe level of copper to MAINTAIN in ANY tank in my opinion, the stuff like sammy says is a poison, and is present naturally on the reefs in parts per BILLION, hence, nearly non-existant. If fish were MEANT to live in water loaded with copper, they would do so. Please don't use copper except in a QT tank to treat Ich, and even then, hyposalinity and garlic is easier on the fish than coppering the water.
And a little etiqette never hurt anyone. Reading all caps just hurts the eyes in my opinion, and because of the caps, we can't HELP but notice your posts. Use caps for emphasis if you want, but not for the whole post.
Just my .02.
