To a degree I find it rather hard to believe it can be done for under $300.00......What type LEDs and drivers are we talking......
Perhaps if you already have a lot of the supplies on hand it's possible to build a bare bones fixture with some bridgelux leds. Heck I spent over $500 to build my scrubber lights and that's only 36 cree's and two drivers. But again, I wanted ramp up and ramp down capabilities with programmable timing. That along with the acrylic case and flat screen t.v. mounts that I used to mount them drove the cost up quite a bit. Otherwise it would have been around $300 or a little over that.

Hmmmm $300.00 !!!! Your talking over your sump which isn't a 6' tank. Just not buying into the $300 figure even using buck pucks and Bridgelux LEDs, and "C" channel.

Yeah it would be hard to think of it in terms of quality. In order to sell something like that and expect to make any kind of profit at all for the time that you put in to making it then fixtures like the A.I.'s with programable capabilities for $400-$500 dont all of a suden seem all that bad. If they made them in larger fixtures instead of purchasing multiple smaller ones then they might be able to offer some better deals. But I wont be holding my breath for it.

The company I'm working for, has transitioned to LED, he was the driver of that. And I know what we're paying for industrial led area lighting, and it seems feasible...
The next one he builds I'm gonna invite myself over...

Id definitely check it out. We as hobbyists dont have the purchasing power or pricing that some places do. Thats why I say its not out of the realm of possibility its just not practical for most of us.
