Have you cleaned your lights lately?

How are your lights looking? If you are anything like me, you remember to clean the bulbs once the lights are already on and hot.
Who wants to meet me here tomorrow, before our lights come on, and remind each other to "Clean while still Cool"?!

I hate having to be quiet when everyone else is asleep.
I have to catch the lights before they come on, but after the peeps wake up. I don't think they'll appreciate me zooming through their rooms cleaning tanks. And to be honest, of all the stuff I log, I have no idea what time the different tank lights come on O.O

light cleaning is definatly one of those maintinence steps often overlooked for just a little too long. I clean mine at every waterchange, since I turn my lights off when doing a water change this allow them to cool. once in a while I forget and have to turn my lights back off and clean them. its amazing though for the price we spend on high power bulbs, and electricity to run them you think we would be more dilligent asbout making sure we are getting 100% of what we pay for. dust and salt spray can quickly reduce the par rating of a light very severely. and of course the older bulbs get the more important it is to keep the lenses clean. ahh maintinence.
cranberry you always seem to bring up the relevant, and some how overlooked subjects.

Funny I find this thread today, because I was just feeding my tank and went "These lights are FILTHY!" I'm actually so appalled that I turned off the halides to let them cool down so I can clean them, then they can go back on. Lights needed to go off for a little bit anyways, the Sailfin Tang and Blenny are being mean to each other today, seems to be their weekly argument over who gets to hang out in the cave

dont forget to take the vaccume and suck all the dust and stuff out of the exhaust fan and vent hole on the lights to keep airflow through the lights, cooler lights run more efficiently.
