Have you ever considered....

going diving off the coast and bringing back a coral or two for yourself?
I would feel bad taking coral from the ocean myself. If anything, I'd rather get lr and ls and leave the corals/fish be. Just curious if you've thought about it and what your reasons were for or against it.

Speeding is illegal too but more than 50% of us do that too :)
....I know it's illegal. I'm asking if you've thought about doing it? :)
I'm pretty good business buddies with one of the lfs guys was he recently told me he was thinking of making a trip over to the coast <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

I am an avid diver, and have mixed emotions about this...On one hand, I would love to be able to bring some of the corals I see back and put them in my tank so I can see them whenever I wish...On the other hand, if I take the coral, it will be forever gone and no other divers will be able to share the experience.
Everytime I think of doing this, I simply think of all the things I would have missed over the years if every diver took just one coral out of the ocean.
Just my opinions, but I feel pretty strongly about it...I almost broke down and took sand once, but decided against that too...But to answer your question, yeah, i have thought about it.

I took some rock, I starfish, and anome from the Keys when I first got started. Worst mistake of my life w/ in two weeks lost everything and anything I tried to put in for a month afterward died. Parasites over ran my tank at least that's what I was told.

I take things off of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Sun coral, arrow crabs, stone crabs, blennies, gobies, ect.... Most of the stuff I trade with my LFS and some I give to friends and some I keep. I don't feel bad about it b/c when the drilling is over the rig is removed so all the critters are either orphaned or killed.
