I'd ask another question but you've effectively topped anything I'd ever ask.

3 guys go to a hotel and decide to share a room. The desk clerk charges $30. After each pays $10 and go to their room, the desk clerk discovers he overcharged $5 as the room was $25. He gives the bell boy $5 to give to the three but seeing that he couldn't split it evenly, he kept $2 and gave each $1. So............how much did each of the 3 pay for the room? If they gave $10 and got $1 back that is $9. $9 X 3 = $27 and the bell boy kept $2 for a total of $29 where did the other dollar go?
Because they really paid 28 dollars for the room. 25+3.
The real reason is more appearent if you look on a number line. You really have the whole number up to 29.99 and 30.00 so mathematically you don't have 30 at all but 29.999 indefinately till you add the one cent to put it at 30.01. Bultiplying 9x3 dollars you don't have accounted the from 27.01 to 27.99. But in the transaction you do. That is why it throws it off.

actually what throws everyone off is they are wrong :) Why are you ADDING the $2 the bell boy kept instead of subtracting it? If you took the $27 that the 3 paid and subtract the $2 that the bell boy kept, you would have the $25 for the room ta da

When watching a war movie we see hundred of the enemy get killed, but if ONE of ours gets it we are sad. and why can't Jack Bauer be stopped (of course he never gets a 5 o'clock shadow, charges his cell phone, or eats)

Why does an iron have a setting for "permanent press"?
If you're in a vehicle traveling the speed of light, what happens when you turn on the headlights?

Have you ever wondered how the term "right side up" was coined? Technically, the 'right side' of anything is indeed a side, and therefore never top or bottom. So how could a side be the top?
