just a dumb question... why does it need a bigger tank? clown fish swim way more than puffers, and the hawian gets to be about 4 inches, right?

It doesn't matter so much how big the fish gets, or that it isn't as active as other species.
The problem is that Puffers eat a lot and put out a lot, which means your tank will not be stable for long. The filtration that goes into a 12 gallon is not enough to keep your levels low. Even for the time being, while he is in there, I would be doing very frequent water changes. Your amonia can spike very quickly and you will wake up one morning to a crashed tank. JMO

Ah good, let's switch avatars too have one just like AW2. If he is annoying and rude, why use an identifiable avatar that might make people confuse the two of you??? Aye! :notsure: Too long of a day and week to worry about this sort of thing but I was hoping that everyone would move on

Anyway...on a side note, I have to ask this. Is this fish really in QT or just in holding for another tank? Because QT in an established tank with other fish is not really QT. :notsure: If you actually want to QT you would need to isolate it and treat with hypo or copper. Otherwise, it is still a carrier, if you will, of ick and such. Just makin' sure

I flew from Chicago to go to the Alamo Bowl and that was a huge win. Lot of those kids gained confidence with that comeback. Hell of a game.

it is a qt tank... i just keep the chromis in there for the tank to keep running, and the yellow goby is very aggressive so i took him out of my gf's tank....... he even attacks the puffer........ so its a bad idea to use this tank for a qt?
like if i keep a fish in there 1-2 months and has no bad signs, wouldn't it be ok to add to the main tank?

Well, depends how you look at it. It is really no different right now than putting it into a main tank. An "official" if you will QT involves proactive treatment of the parasite even if you do not see it, with the general consensus being that even if you don't see it, the fish is carrying it. So you treat it as though it has the parasite (which it probably does). So QT implies an active hyposalinity or copper treatment.
Its handy to keep an animal separate to ensure it doesn't die from other diseases, and that you can get it eating, etc, but this form of QT offers no protection against a later Ick issue. So that is the trade off at this point.
It is entirely possible that you can put this fish into a main tank and it can get stressed out and die from that and ick. You have the confidence now that it is eating and it won't die 2 days after you got it from the LFS, but that is the limitation.

dam.... i guess i need another tank now! i think i may keep him in there...he's very small..... my gf's tank is doing great, and i don't want to take any kind of chances right now...
so in the future, i should always hypo fish b4 adding them to the main tank?
i do want to pick up some cleaner gobies
