Why do you not want others to take money from government welfare. They say you can have it, entilted to it. Why welfare reform then? I got mine, you can't have yours. I currently am a taxpayer...
I understand your line about being a taker - (some are givers)
"I will take every last dime I am entitled to from it." I understand the evil government, they owe you.
I have capped SSI many times over the years and have had the 7.5 percent stop being withheld from my paychecks, during the same time being bumped into a higher tax bracket. Net result, I got to keep more of my money, even in a higher tax bracket. Must be the best kept secret...
My point, if I were to become disabled based on the SSI statement , in about 8 years, I would run out of money I put into it. I have withholdings since I was 16. Self-employed works out to about 12% since you get to deduct 1/2 on the frontside of fedtax return.
However, I don't have the strong convictions that the government shouldn't help the disadvantaged.
Maybe my convictions will changes, if I become disadvantaged. I may then be against the government helping other people and universal health care. But then again, that wouldn't make... sense, would it?
Do you understand the real concept of insurance? It is a company betting that more clients will not suffer a loss than will. Social Security is no different. When it was created the age at which you could collect it was higher than the average male life expectancy. Then they decided to add disability insurance into the mix. When Social Security was started they took something like 2.3% of your income. Now between Social Security and medicare/caid it is 15%. You only see 7.5 come off your check but your employer matches it.
I don't lose any sleep over taking the benefits I paid for. They jacked up the rates and included disability insurance in the benefits. Why in the world wouldn't I take them? All in all I'd rather be out fixing the stupid copiers, or most anything else but that isn't in the cards.
