You'll want one on either side of the tank for even heat distribution. Especially in such a large tank.
I recommend any sort of submersible titanium heater with an external temperature gauge. I believe the temp gauge also comes with some sticky velcro so you can velcro it to the side of your tank, wall or wood... whatever. It's worth it, IMHO to get two titanium heaters.

I don't recommend finnexx. Mine overheated my tank. It was replacing my marineland heater.

Meowzer do you have a dumping the 225? Put the heaters in the sump. I prefer either Jali titanium heaters or Finnex titanium heaters. I will not purchase the basic all in 1 connected controllers though. I will only run a separate heater controller.
If your heater over heated your system sounds like heater was to big??? Several smaller heaters is a better option as we know if 1 were to fail it would over heat the setup. Another option would be to run your heater through an aquarium controller. That way you'd have 2 backups if the heater controller would fail, your controller would sense the heat above it's limits and shut power off to the heater.

Sorry hard to type on phone at times.... Yes I meant sump. Yes I would figure my total needs for heating and break it up onto 2 smaller heaters. Minimize the risk of an accident spread out. If a small heater sticks on a big tank not a big deal. If you had a controller I'd opt the other way with 1 heater.

IMHO in a room comfortable to humans heaters are not necessary and can crash the tank when the fail (on).
But that's just my .02

LOL...It's funny that you say that, because I have not run a heater in the 225G in a while.....NOW I did recently turn on the heater in my 29G because it had gotten down to 75...
BOB....Just curious...How low will you let your tanks get???

or 70-75 F.
with lights the real problem very could be keeping the tank cool.
I did use heaters when my 55g was on the back porch and exposed to 10F winter temperatures. And I had a heater stick on in summer and lost all my corals before I figured out why the watr was so warm.

My choices would be Jali or Finnex or EboJager.
YEAH, I bought Jagers last winter for the 29G and the 54G.....Had to calibrate the one in the 54G twice for some reason though, but all is good now...EVEN though I have not plugged it in yet.....This tank has no fish yet due to the ich....the 29G one has been on...tank went up to 82...so I lowered the temp some...would be happy with a 78 temp

YIKES
This is the description on the JALLI heater controller...I had no clue that when you used a controller, you had to turn the knob on the heater ALL THE WAY up

Temperature controllers are used in applications where multiple heaters are needed, i.e. larger aquariums or central systems with a common sump.
The principle of operation is to use conventional aquarium heaters and bypass their integral thermostats by setting them to their highest settings, then plugging them into a separate controller.
Temperature control ranges 72 to 93 degrees fahrenheit.
This controller makes it simple to control and achieve the desired water temperature and keep it stable with the built-in thermostat.

That's the same thing a heater does all on its own anyway. It kicks on full blast Untill it reaches the desired temp and then cuts itself off. Same principle your just using the controlers thermal switch instead of the heaters. Heaters only have one output so its either on full blast when its running or nothing at all.

Hey Shawn have you heard anything about the metal titanium heaters being the most notorious for causing stray voltage?

LOL...OH
OK...Do you need a controller for every heater? Or can you plug multiple heaters into each controller?
Trying to find that in the descriptions...but have not

I haven't used on so Shawn might be able to answere that. But last time I looked yes you can run multiple heaters on one unit.
BTW I don't think id personally follow the recomendations of setting the heater on its highest seting. If you want 80 degrees then set the controler for 80 degrees and then set the heaters for like 82-83. That way if the controlers sensor ever fails then you still have your heaters own sensors to fall back on without cooking the tank.

I just don;t know what to do...LOL....Sometimes I wonder if I really even need a heater....and then I think....well I better...JIC.....LOL
