Heater in AGA overflow?

I've got limited room in my sump so I've been toying with putting the heater in one of the two overflows on my All-GLASS 110. I was worried about loosing power an no water flow but if I lost power so will the heater. The contact time for it in either the overflow or the sump is about the same. So is there any reason I shouldn't do this? I'm not new to salt but this is my first reef ready tank.

matt, my concern would be when the power gets restored. there's always a bit of a delay b/w powering up and the system running at its full capacity. the plumbing has to fill with water and if your return lines drain the tank past your overflows, you have to wait for the tank to fill up. it doesnt take long at all for a heater to burn out if it's turned on while dry.

Are you running with a Durso (?) pipe? If so, I think you would be ok. Mine has enough water to keep a large heater fully submerged even if I lose power. Does your overflow drain out completely if you lose power?
