Heater issues

I have a 75G DT with one Ebo Jager 150W heater. It is supposed to be accurate +/- .5 degree. This is not the case. It has never been accurate to what I've set it to. I had it set to 81 and for months my temp has been 84.3. I thought maybe my 4 PH's, lights, and pumps were the cause of the high temp. I thought maybe the heater element was broken.
2 days ago I did a water change and removed the heater to warm up my salt mix, it did and then some. Okay, so it's a 150W in a 5 gallon bucket, that's understandable to overheat.
Well, my DT temp dropped to 74...now I know it WAS working the whole time...just very inaccurate.
So I wake up this morning to my tank being 90.1 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!By the way, I dropped the thermostat on the heater to 78 as most people recommend 78-79F. What gives?
I bought the Jager because it was supposed to be very accurate.
So my question is...What heater is recommended to be more accurate? Any suggestions?
Thanks-Kevin

I have the same heater as you. I set my to 74 so the tank can be 80. The heater did withstand being on for a few days with just 5 inches of water (vertical install).

I use won brothers pro 350w heater. It works with 0 problems. Very accurate and I never touch it.

The best feature, if it defaults in any way, it shuts off and does not get stuck on and fry your tank.

I used Jaegers years ago and they were top of the line then. just recently bought 4 200w eheim-jaegers, using 2 in my 125 and 1 in a 30 qt and had a few setup problems but they are working fine now. Do not bother going by the dial. I had to recalibrate all three of them (haven't even taken the 4th out of the box yet.) The best way I found to do this was to fill a 5 gallon bucket, set the heater at 75 f then leave it for a few hours (put a powerhead in the bucket for circulation). Check the temp with a good thermo, then pull the pin and recalibrate the heater. You should be within 1 degree then. I emailed the company and they ARE fully submersible, but just waiting on Underwriters labs approval. Since eheim bought them, they lost that certification.

I have been looking at heaters and the Proheat I and II look like they would be good. I like how the II has a digital display of what the water temp is.
Anyone use the $10 Coralife battery operated thermometer with digital display? How accurate are those? I have one and just ordered another.

Thanks for the calibration advice. Mine is the eheim-jaegers 150W model. I pulled the pin and set the dial at 67, we'll see what happens. If I can't get this thing fixed by Friday I think I'll order the Won Brothers Pro Heat and use my Jaeger to heat salt mixes during water changes.
I don't wan't to get rid of it, it DOES heat the water up.

I'm starting to think my heater IS stuck on. After I reset it to 67 it's still on and raising the temp back up to 89. I unplugged it and am waiting for temp to go down to 79, then I'll plug it back in and hope for the best.

If you left the pin out, turning the knob does not change the heat range. Pull the pin, turn the knob all the way up, replace pin, then turn knob all the way down, it should shut off. If not , then email the company (address is on the paperwork) and they may be able to help. Mine are working as they should, but you may have gotten a defective unit.

Thanks Sarwiz, I tried to reset it as you mentioned but it still did not shut off. It will not let my water go below 84.6 unless I unplug it. I bought this heater last April from another website and no longer have the paperwork...if I do I can't find it. Can you please e-mail the info if you have it? Thanks
