I have 2 brand new Stealth 250watt heaters for my 225G...Nights are beginning to get chilly, so I am thinking it's time to put them in the tank
I have a wet/dry that is a fuge, and I have one of the heaters in the skimmer section....they will not fit anywhere else....my question is.....can I put 2 heaters right next to each other in that section, or should I put one in the tank?? (see pic 2)

WELL The heater for the 29G doesn't work

I put it in this morning so I can keep an eye on it, and it has never shut off...Glad I did this today...into the trash it will go
It's one of those all glass aquarium ones....The best thing about them is you can see if the light is on or not...The stealth heaters have no light

I have the stealth heaters now...they are plastic and really good. I never had a problem in 4 years. I once had my fish break a glass one, and it electrocuted the whole tank. (freshwater)...after that I bought a cover for them.
Just look at your tanks temp each day...you will know if there is a problem with the heaters. I use two, if one bites the dust I still have one working.

Are you using magnetic heater mounts?
I bought some thinking they would be great, I would never have to worrie about the rubber suction cups going hard. Well I found out that the magnet held my contacts open, so my heater never came on.
I sure am glade I didn't have the heater turned around the other way............sea food anyone?

No, they are suction cups.....the one I have in the skimmer section is just sitting in there...I have not put the other in yet...still not sure where to put it, in tank, or right next to where I have the other one

Can you put it next to the return pump? Maybe even in the refuge part? The water flowing through there, I don't think there would be a problem as long as they are separted. I would probly put it in the opposite corner, in the refug section.
I hope somone gives you a little more definate answer. BTW, how many watts do you need for a 225G tank?

I have 2 250Watts. The heater won't fir in the return side, and with the mod to the fuge part I can't put it in there either,
It will fit in the skimmer section, just not sure they should both be together. I could put it in the inside corner of the tank....it wouldn't look that bad..

Weeelllllll, That is where it should go then for now at least, if you are worried about the temps. You can move it later. I wouldn't place two heaters next to each other either.

you can put both of them next to eachother. just make sure that u have a high flow rate of water in that are they going to be. if not they will short cycle power (turn off and on) and it is not going to be effeciant. also that will cause your electric bill to rise.

No matter what, the suction cups will dry up and not be of any use in a very short while. They will stay where you place them, mine do. Just to clarify...I do use the suction cups, they are good for a short time, by the time they go bad the heaters just stay where I originally placed them.
Opposite sides is best. Tuck them behind some rock.... If you can't put them opposite each other...as far apart as possible. The water current will carry the warmth throughout the tank.

I never would have thought of that. I use Jagers that have electronic thermostats instead of those mechanical contacts... but I can see this being a problem with mechanical thermostats. Neat story!

Yeah, wow, that is a neat story. I haven't ever thought about that either! Thanks for sharing, Posiden.
Meowzer, I think that you would be ok having both of the heaters next to each other as long as there is a lot of water flow through that section of the sump. Also, as long as they remain underwater all during that time as well.

It's the section that the dual overflow pours into before going thru the skimmer, so I there is a lot of flow..
Thanks all
