Im just curious. I live in South Florida so we dont need the house heater very often..and when we do, it is electric. With the cost of oil Im sure heating oil will be up this year. My questions to you UP Northers are...
1. How much is you heating bill now and how much was it before the price hike.
2. What temp do you keep your house at? ( my wife had ours at 78 today..and I live in South Florida.
)
3. And a rough estimate of total heating / cooling / electric for 12 month average. I say mine averages 300+ a month.
I was just wanting to see... because Ive heard it cost 900 dollars to fill up with heating oil???? How long would that last?

last time i bought oil it was 3.20 a gallon
so, average about 150-200 gallons = roughly 450-640, and depending on how cold it gets maybe squeak that out to a month

I pay a set bill of $165 per month for my oil, spread out over the whole year. That is for my heat and hot water. Before I went onto that monthly plan I paid for oil as it was delivered. During the cooler months I was getting a delivery about every 6 weeks or so at a cost of about $400-$600 per delivery. I generally went the whole summer with only a single tankfull though, for 3-4 months.

I too am on a budget plan where I pay a set amount every month for the year. But on average I use about 300 gals of oil in the winter. I have 2 natural gas ventless fireplaces in my house that helps me a lot with the increased oil prices. My house is typically no warmer than 72. I would be in shorts and a T shirt if it were 78 in my house.

I just switched to Natural Gas from heating oil. I went from about $1800 a year to $1200. We keep the temp at 68F - 70F daytime and 65F at night.
I still have 250 gallons of oil left in the tank if anyone wants it at half price.

Yep natural gas saved my butt with heating expenses.. Although I use oil too, not nearly as much as I have in the past. I also took the liberty of insulating my attic so heat loss is minimal. My oil heat expense is about $800 a season and gas increased from about 40 a month to 100 a month I would estimate I will spend about 1100 this year.. I have spent $ 1,800 in the past.
