Hmm thats prob why. I usually go mid-late may. W your tank. You have the rt idea. Go a bit bigger and get it stabilized, then you should be fine. The 3 things to test for are ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite

You guys lucky. Cant catch anything out here to put into tanks over hear. Going to be nice to buy some of the stuff online. Over $100 for a clown fish where i live. Havent even looked at price of living rock or sand. Simple toadstool is $500 at store.

Haha, whoops. I can't read. What do I buy to test them? I might go get a tank tonight. Is there a test kit to buy? Going to PetSmart. Also, when do I introduce the live rock? I saw that someone had some disgusting centipede worm that came out of his rock and I was wondering if its just luck of the draw with what hitchhikers you get.

when you go to pet stores most of them have water treatment kits with everything you need to start. there normally a smaller kit for like $30 and then they got bigger ones for like$140 with a lot more stuff. depends on your budget.

lol that is way to expensive. if i take a walk down the street and go snorkeling ITS AMAZING. i see trigger fish HUGE schools of cromis, and i see damzels, the puffers are fun too. but my favorite is the queen angle. oh did i forget to mention all the wrasses. AND THE LIONFISH, I HATE THEM! lol. but i think it would be cool to come see some of our reefs in florida. im thinking of going down one day and caching some to put in my tank. and it would be free.

I wish i could. Anemones are 40-100 or more for some. Would cost me thousands to fill my tank if bought all from store

Okay, so I just went to PetSmart and got a $100 Top Fin 20 gallon LED aquarium for $75. Included I got: Top Fin power filter with cartridge, adjustable 100-watt heater, hood with LED lights, 4in nylon net, thermometer, water test vial and a set up guide. What do I do next?

I didn't buy any salt or sand yet. I will buy the Instant ocean sea salt tomorrow, as that's what I use in my other tank. How do I make dechlorinated water? I have Tetra brand AquaSafe Plus water conditioner. How much sand and what type? Live? Feel free to PM me so I can get a faster response.

You need salt mix, a source of reverse osmosis/deionized water, sand and about 5 lb of live rock and another 15 lb of base, dry, rock (this saves considerable $$ since the base rock will eventually become live), a hydrometer and an ammonia test kit. Mix the salt in water until the hydrometer indicates 1.025, and the temperature is around 75. Add the rock, then the sand substrate in that order so the rock rests on the tank bottom, not on sand. When this is all set suspend a piece of shrimp in a nylon stocking in the water and measure ammonium daily until until the level reaches 1.0, then remove the shrimp. Continue to measure ammonium until it is at zero, then measure nitrites until those levels also fall to zero. Then you can do a small water change, then begin to add stock slowly.

Raw shrimp works best. You can buy it frozen or get it from any supermarket that sells seafood. Just one shrimp though. Not a hand full. Cook and eat the rest. Lol
