My calcium was low, around 330-340 so I went to the LFS and picked up some Tropic Marin Bio-Calcium. I read and read, it said that you should use 1 level scoop per 5 gallons of water, MAX dose is 1 scoop per 5 gallons per day. I have a 60 gallon tank with wet/dry that I added 52 gallons of water when I set it up. The tank has cycled and has been running for about 2 weeks after the cycle.
SO, I decided, I used 50 gallons of water, it says 1 scoop per 5 gallons per day. Since I wanted to add it gradually I cut that in half and I used 5 level scoops instead of 10 level scoops, HALF the recommended max dosage. After it mixed in my water got EXTREMLY cloudy, as in, you could see about 1 foot through the water max, but really only about 6 inches well.
Anyway, it has been 3 hours now, and the water is still pretty cloudy. At first the fish freaked out and swam around eratically and then stuck around the edges, I guess so they could see out. Do you think this will hurt the fish? After about 5 minutes I decided they would be less Stressed if I turned out the lights so they would be in darkness and not really tell that the water was so cloudy. I guess really I wonder if the calcium would really hurt them.
If so, why does it say to use so much, I used half the amount and I couldn't believe if I had used the full MAX dosage.
