I have a 190g tank and just noticed that all my fish have ich. I dont have a hospital tank as was wondering if I can just hypo my show tank since I dont have any corals yet. I do have like 300lbs of live rock though. If so what should I make the salinity and for how long.:(

the liverock, livesand, and inverts won't survive hypo. get a qt for the fish. it doesn't have to be a "tank", a rubbermaid container will work, read the very first post in this forum.

i had the same problem and am doing hypo in my main tank. it is working great for me, but i have a 55g and you have a 190g. i don't suggest you do hyposalinity in a tank that size.

HEY MMYNC....
I HAVE A 125 GAL. FISH ONLY WITH LIVE SAND AND HERMIT CRABS... AND I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU
HAVE NOW...I DID A HYPOSALINITY TO 1.015 ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO AND THE TANK IS STILL IN HYPOSALINITY AND EVERYONE LOOKS AND ACTS GREAT.....HAVENT COUNTED THE CRABS BUT ALL OR MOST OF THEM ARE STILL ALIVE AND GROWING...
THE LOWER SALINITY REDUCES THE STRESS ON THE FISH
AND I FEEL KEEPS THEM IN BETTER CONDITION THAN
THE HIGHER SALINITY....FOR FISH ONLY TANKS OF COURSE.
REGARDS...

Tank size has nothing to do with effectiveness of hypo. What you have in the tank does. L/R, inverts, L/S, corals anenomes etc. will not survuve 3 weeks of hypo @1.009. I never heard of hypo working @1.015. My guess is that it wouldn't work at that level. Also am not sure that it's a good idea to have fish, inverts etc. @ 1.015 for months. Will let someone else comment on thsi.

hypo is a good treatment but u should always try the least advasave action first neon gobies eat ick and so do cleaner wresses and it is natraul eny time u change the inviorment you change other things i keep several neon gobies and cleaners on hand cleaner shrimp will help also becuse there is several stages to ick so several stages of cleaning needs to be thought of just rember a natrual tank is a happy one
