Help! ANEMONE CRISIS!

OK I was cleaning my tank (20 gallon) today, and I bumped a few pieces of salt creep into the tank. I know its alright to do this as long as it doesnt land on any invertebrates. before I could catch it, a very small piece, smaller than my pinkey nail, landed on my long tentacle. within 2 seconds, it shriveled up. it went from about 8 inches across to less than two. it is now smaller than the anemone crab that lives in it. How badly will this affect it? Im really worried. Since I got it, the anemone has done really well and I would hate to loose it due to something so stupid! has this happened to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to help or should I leave it alone? When will it come out again? please help!

Not much you can do, but hope for the best, I have done the same thing in the past, not to an anemone, but several other corals, they all seem to react the same, the polyp retracts, and sometimes they seem to loose some tissue where the salt fell, but I have never lost a coral, and those that seemed to be injured as a result of the salt quickly healed. I did the same thing with one of my mushrooms. It shriveled up for about 3 days, but them came right back healthy as ever. Hope the same happens for you with your anenome.

i'm afraid your anemone might be in crisis because since tehy are delicate animals there is a 50/50 chance or maybe its nothing at all. I have to confess wen i first started i just poured sea salt into my aquarium what a idiot i am. It landed on my corals mushroom everything just ass long as the salt dissolves i dont think there should be any problems

Well I dont think my anemone suffered any permanent dammage. I checked on him today and he is back to his normal size and looks completely fine. He did however make a move away from his previous location. Thanks for your responses.

Glad everything turned out okay for your anemone. They are such fascinating creatures, they will move arround in the tank until they find a comfortable home. I like my anomones as much as my fish. Maybe more!
