our tank is double sided built-in the wall between the family room and kitchen.. that's why you can see the kitchen table through the glass

Just a thought the drive may have taken the oxygen out of the water in the bag. It is a good idea to QT any fish and use an air stone in the bag before you put the fish in the QT tank. I have a shark tank so my QT is set up so I have no copper go in to my main tank. I can tell you more if you wish. Fish can suffocate in a bag if in it long enough. Some fish stores now use bags the breath, but they cost more. You can buy your own, or bring a 5 gallon bucket like I do when I buy a fish.

In any case it sounds like the long trip home might have caused a lot of stress if the bad was not pumped with oxygen.
Keep in mind no one here is judging you. You asked for help and people are just trying to get information to try to help out.
It sounds like the Grouper may come through it ok which is good news.
One thing I don't agree with is that if you knew that it was 99.9999% chance that the grouper would eat the damsels then why did you put it in there? Why would you take the chance that the damsels would get eaten when you knew what the chances were? Sounds like you didn't care what happens to the damsels. If it's because they are cheap fish well then would you let a clownfish get eaten? It's a damsel.

LOL 2 to 3 hours LOL again ....45 min on a drip, no more is need than that your just wasting water. By the way i have 2 cleaner 4 lysmata and 2 pistols all fine after 1 1/2yr. at 45min never have lost a fish coral or invert during acclimation. i always drip though

yes, there was oxygen pumped in... just a long drive
Okay,,, as stated above... my tank is custom, therefore the cabinets are custom. I have to stand on a ladder to feed the fish... so that means I am on a ladder to catch fish as well. I am on a ladder and from the top of the hood to the water is about 15 inches down. From the top of the glass to the bottom is 32 inches. The tank is 6 ft long. My arm is only so long, so I can not catch 8 damsels that are lightning fast that also know me well enough by now to know when I am getting up there to feed them, or getting up there to catch them. We never purchased the damsels to keep. Unfortunately, if I can't catch them and if my fiance can't catch them, the guy who takes care of my tank probally won't be able to catch them when he comes this coming Wednesday. My point is, the lion and or the grouper probably will. My original plan was not to let them get eatten. Oh by the way, the idea about the shrimp... just got back from the freshwater fish store for my daughter... the shrimp has been munched on.. so the rest of the carcass got poked with the feeder stick and taken out. Should have known.
Didn't think anyone was judging me sweetie. I thank all for everything said!

I feel your pain there. I have to use a ladder too since my tank is on a wine server cabinet so the bottom of the tank is already 4 feet off the ground. The lucky thing for me is I have long arms which helps a lot. I wasn't trying to dis you on any of my comments just tryin to be contructive.
There are fish traps you can get that might help you catch them. If that doesn't work then the only thing you could do is remove all the rock work but that is a big project just to catch a few elusive fish.
You might be surprised that the big fish may not eat the damsels if they can't catch em. ***) but that would lead to some stressful environment.

yea, I had a bruise under my arm for about 3 days!
no problem.. just a lil misunderstanding is all.
I haven't bought a trap per say, but I have tried to trap them. They are smart, I think. So far nothing has tried to bother the damsels. I have been almost stalking the tank from the other room and so far nothing going on. So, we shall see.. my guy will be here in a few days.

It might be that the damsels may start harrassing the grouper and lion. You never know but if they do the big ones will probably eat em.
Would be nice to see some pics of the grouper ***) oh, nm I see that one you posted already. I will try to zoom it so I can get a better look. They are such georgous fish.
