Before explaining my situation, I want to point out that I'm not at all new to sw tanks, I have an established 55 gallon reef (2 years) and 24 gallon nano reef (1 1/2 years). I just picked up a 15 gallon that I want to set up. Here's my situation:
I just picked up a goby / shrimp pair that I want to put in the new 15 gallon nano. On the drive home, I realized that if I put the pair in one of my established tanks (which is what my original plan was), I'm going to have to come close to dismantling everything in order to get these two guys out, once the 15 gallon is ready. The guy I got them from pretty much had to take all of his rock work out in order to capture the shrimp.
I have a ton of sand that used to be live, but has been sitting in a box for 3 months. I can take some sand from my 55 gallon if I need to, along with the water and some live rock. Is there any combination of this stuff that I can use to get the 15 gallon going without kicking in a nitrogen cycle?
TIA for any help!
