Hey,
To get all the benifits of lr I would wait until you are getting some coralline algae growing on your lr. You should also be seeing lots of pods after lights out. That means your rock is working as a filter system for your tank. You could get a few small pieces of lr to "seed" your base rock and speed things up a bit.
If you really can't wait that long, a few mushrooms would be ok IMO. They may not thrive but they will survive until your tank matures a bit.
