help building a big stand

I just realized that these pics are of two different stands. The one with all 2x4s is good. The one using the 4x4s is going to have problems in the future. You have all the weight on the lag screws or bolts, whichever you used. You need to place some support under the lumber supporting the tank. As you have it built, the 4x4s are not fully being utilized. Bad design.

I'm planning on using 3/4" plywood for the top...
What type of plywood should I use? I was at HD and they had pressure treated, but it doesn't look very straight. They also had other types of hardwood plywood and they looked good, but I don't need the "finished look". What is the strongest or most effective to use?
On a side note - I wasn't thrilled when my friend who does some construction told me that the shavings/dust from pressure treated wood is carcinogenic. That makes me a little weary if I want to sand it, etc.!

I think you'd be fine using 3/4" BC or CDX plywood and finished plywood would be a waste of money for the top of the stand IMO. I really don't see any need for using pressure treated plywood for the top....If you worried about moisture or something of that nature, seal the top with polyurethane. You can purchase marine grade plywood which is alittle more costly, but you can get it in 1" thickness as well.
Pressure treated lumber does come with warnings about dust particles and about burning it. I think they have changed in the chemicals they use to treat the stuff, but still not great for the body.
