I Have A 55g With 2 False Percs. And 2 Heniochus Butterflies(small). I Am Wanting To Add More Fish. I Have Thought About A Flame Angel, But Have Heard To Stay Away From Angels As They Do Not Live Long. A Pair Of Purple Firefish And A Hectors Or Rainfords Goby Are Also Fish I Like. What Are Your Opinions On These Fish? I Also Wanted To Ask What Fish Can Be Added To The Tank In Order To Do "work"? I Want Fish That Will Be Beneficial To The Tank And Serve A Purpose. Any Suggestions? Thanks

Lucky you, I love all butterflies. In this tank though I don't think I would add anymore fish, these butterflies will need room to swim about.
Maybe someone else has a different opinion.
Enjoy.....

I know that the Butterflies need room, but they are very same and I am pretty confident that I can add more fish. I will be waiting for some time before adding anything else, but any information would be appreciated. I have thought about a diamond goby for sifting the sandbed, but would prefer a different goby that has more color such as the yellow watchman, but like I said I do want fish that will serve a purpose in the tank. please respond, thanks.

I dont think the purple flame fish would add that much bioload to a 55 at all, plus they're pretty. Purpose though, meh?
I think any kind of blenny would be good, they help control your pods and they are cool to watch "climbing" and pearching on the rocks :)

yes, I agree, I do not think they will do anything for the tank aside from add color. I am fine with that, just wondering if there are fish as colrful that will benefit the tank, or as you mentioned with the blenny's, serve a purpose as well as look neat.?.

What purpose are you looking for??
I would suggest a Yellow watchman for a goby, they are a nice color. You could add a school of green chromis if you like them, they would accomodate the upper area of your tank. I love royal gramma's for a nice punch of color but they can be aggressive don't know what they would do with the butterflies. Everything I have read about them says to put them in a peacful tank.
Maybe you can ask in the Fish section what others whom have butterflies in particular have in their tanks for other fish, that way you don't get something that will harass the butterflies but get along with them.

I guess I am not looking for a purpose in paticular.?. I know that gobie will help with sand bed, and lawnmower blenny and tangs help algae control. I have been told not to add a yellow tang to this size tank. I am just looking for fish that will do some kind of cleaning and not affect thej bio load too much. I really do not care for chromis, I have had a school of 3 in the past and pretty blah. I am also thinking about a Bangaii or Pajama Cardinal in a pair???

A goby is a great addition. I have a byno goby in my 46 gallon and never have to touch the bottom for cleaning. I also just ordered a yellow watchman with a pistol shrimp for my 29 gallon.

They not only serve a purpose but have tons of personality.

Jean, I am glad that you were able to get the goby and shrimp that you wanted. Were you able to find them already paired or are you adding them in hopes they will end up together? I have definately thought about the yellow watchman and pistol shrimp team. Will the ywg do as much to the sand bed as say a diamond goby?

The LFS is ordering them for me tomorrow, he said his supplier is really reputable and will make sure they are paired. I am soooo excited, I should have them Wed. I will keep you posted.

I don't think the watchman does as well as the diamond, I used to have a diamond and all he did all day was sift sand, same as my byno now. My sandbed is spotless.

I am not sure that I want another diamond goby. I know that they do great job sifting sand, but I really think that I want the realationship of the YWG and the Pistol shrimp in my tank. I am not sure what I want to do, I am going to try and compose a few different lists of fish that I would like and see what people say. I have thought about a wrasse, but do not want a sixline, or something that is real big.?.
