HELP Clam in trouble

i am currently on assignment in the virgin islands, and a buddy of mine is taking care of my reef tank back home in florida. i have a 55gallon with about 80lbs of live rock and 50lbs of live sand, two 150 watt halide and two 30 watt actinics. he recently told me that all over my sand, rocks and glass little shrimp/flea looking critters are showing up. he said that they are particularly interested in a clam that is in the sand. i saw a few of these guys before i left home but it was only every now and then that i would see them, they are about 1-2cm long and are a greyish/white almost clear color. they have little tiny antennae and like i said look like a cross between a shrimp and a flea. my tank is about a year and a half old. im not at home so i cant see all of this but hopefully i have given enough information. if anyone knows what they are bad or good and possibly a way to get rid of them i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

My guess are that they are either mysis shrimp or amphipods. They are probably cleaning off the detrius on the clam.
Unless you actually see them harm the clam, than it wouldn't be to much to worry about.
They also make great food sources for fish :D

I agree -- it sounds like copepods, amphipods, isopods, or mysid shrimp. If this is what it is, there's nothing to worry about.
Take Care,
Graham
