HELP! Emerald Crab Eating Mushroom!

Sorry to hear about your luck! I have an emerald crab (Oz)with mushrooms, and he has never even looked sideways at them! Maybe he was cleaning them? Has he done any damage, or just crawling all over them?

Well I put the mushoom in the tank the other day and he started moving last night down to the front rock from where he was at. I guess he didnt like where he was and paid the consequences for it. I went to feed the fish and I couldnt find the mushroom so I lifted up the rock and Sebastian and the shroom were down on the sand. Sebastian quickly ran for cover and I found the shoom with a chunk taken out of him. So now he sits in a floaty bag until I get some advice as to what to do with him.

:notsure: That is strange, I have several emerald crabs, and one has taken up house in the rock underneath a mushroom colony I have. I have never seen them eat mushrooms, only eat algae, and I sometimes feed mine off the feeder stick, they are fun to watch.
Maybe he is hungry??? is there lots of algae in your tank? is there lots of competition for food?

you can always give your crab a chunk of squid he'll run and eat that for a day or two, while your mushroom attaches securely, I dont think he would be able to remove it then.

I dont think he's hungry. He's been eating the bubble algea off the rocks and Ive been giving him seaweed selects, he loves those. I moved the mushroom to one of the back rocks so hopefully everything will be ok.

well thats good, hopefully it works.
I have heard that they eat bubble algae and are about the only things that will, I dont have any in my tank so I am not sure. But I was also told once that sometimes they wont eat it??
who knows, everybody always says something different. Good Luck :)

My emerald loves hair algae, though there isn't much left in my tank anymore. He does like algae sheets, too. Maybe you could intice him with one of those! :joy:
