Not to lecture you, but 3 weeks away is tough on an aquarium. Did you have anyone look after them? Were any normal water changes done? I think the damage is done, if ICK is present, you should look at the ICK treatments in this forum. When I had an ICK problem in my tank which killed all my fish, I left the tank inhabitant-free for about 5 weeks and never had that problem again.
I think the lackof attention, if any, caused your problem. Especially no water changes.

yes someone was looking after the tank i didn't just leave the fish unattended for 3 weeks, i didi a water change before i left and one immedietely when i got home at 2am, the weird thing is today the two fish which had small tiny white dots on them appear to be fine, and i can't find any dots on them..... and all of the fish appear to be normal, i live in the desert the big heat wave was even worse for us, and i think the water top offs were hardly ever done which lead the pump just blowing air into the tank and stressed the fish out as well as a lot of salt loss

Ick has cycles. When I had ick in my tank, My fish would have good days and bad days before they finally died. Also, it seemed to only infect 1 fish at a time. (wierd) But I lost all but 1 fish before I could get my QT setup for a hypo salinity treatment. Kick Ick didn't work at all. I lost 3 fish trusting in that. THe paleness is probably stress caused by being infected w/ Ich. All of my fish started acting wierd when only one had signs of being infected. My advise, get all of your fish into QT ASAP and start a Hypo Salinity treatment. Check the Disease forum for how to do that. If you don't have a QT, get one. Hopefully only 10-20 gal is all you need. A little stress caused by space restriction is better than death by parasite.

What do you do if you want to go on vacation and there is nobody to look after my aquarium?
Should I get into this hobby or not?
An automatic feeder?
What is the maximum amount of time I can be away?

I have gone away for a week but had someone stop in twice in that time to feed the frozen food instead of the flakes that were in the automatic feeder. I did a water change before vacation and after..I think you can go a week without a babysitter.
But socalracer did say his tank was tended to, but things can just happen for whatever reason...

ya my tank was tended to but by someone who is somewhat lazy and not in the hobby, my suggestion is have a freind in the hobby that knows the importance of tank up keep, and knows what problems to look for

i would lower your water temp by a few degrees and feed garlic to your fish . garlic is a great ich fighter and a great immune booster for your fish
