Help, fish caught in net

We bought a tiny trigger today and while transfering him into the QT his upper fin got caught in the net. We tried to get him unstuck for about five minutes, but he was so stressed!!! So we finally decided to cut the net. So now he is swimming around with a little piece of netting stuck to his upper fin. Will it eventually come off or is it going to kill him???

By upper fin I'm assuming you mean the trigger. It wont kill him and will eventually fall off. I used to do that at least once a day, theres a trick to getting them uncaught, the trigger has barbs on it, you just grab him by it and push it a notch farther into the net then stretch the hole open and pull it out. Dont grab his body and the trigger part at the same time or you may break the joint.

yep thats wat happened to me wen i went after my black and white pericula
it was pretty hard gettin him to calm down but i gently pushed his body forward and then downward so there was no harm done and i still have a net

Thanks guys.
He is swimming around and behaving normal, but still has that piece of net stuck to him. i really hope it will fall off on it's own.

Ok so my little trigger, who has been named jaws, is getting a new name, mohawk because that piece of net has still not fallen off.
Does anyone have any other ideas of how we can deal with this situation?

hmm id prefer to catch them with my hands before a net... even caught a purple tang by hand, wasnt the best idea but got away with only a cut lol. but give it a little more time it should come off.
