help from pro playsand person please

i'm going to try the playsand route, at this point i have only one
fish and i think he could survive and nuclear blast. i was thinking of putting this 150 lbs of "playsand" in a cooler and filling it with freashwater to rinse power out of it. also if any oil is in the sand it would float to the top for easy removal. maybe let it soak for a day or two. have cc at this point and convinced dsb the way to go, will be switching to reef setup and limited number of small fish.
any opinions would be helpful, thanks randy

What brand of playsand are you using? If it's Southdown, then your plan will work just fine.

Hi Randolph,
I suggest trying to find a finer grained sand. If you're using silica based palysand I don't believe you will be happy with it. It will work, just not as well as a very fine white sand IMO.

southdown is very hard to find, i wish i could get some
in the atlanta area. i would drive an hour in any direction,
no problem. i will be in fla soon maybe i can find some there.

You're going to have a tough time finding Southdown South of Virginia. Look for a very fine bright white sand at Home Depot. That should work fine. The problem with Silica based playsand is that the grain size is very large and there's a large amount of Feldspar.

Quickcrete platsand will work....but in my opinion the over all appearence is just not anywhere near aragonite type sands....try these links and order the stuff if you need to....

irishstout, thanks for the numbers of the playsand . i'll be checking with home depot to find some of this stuff. i wonder if they would let me order some bags from another store, and get it here to atlanta, i'll ask manager, i can wait for the good stuff. checked the web site given for pure carribbean and they have a good price on sand per bag, but shipping may make the difference.
