I want to get a 30gal tank. I wanted to put these fish in it
1 Lemon Peel Angelfish
2 Percula Clownfish
2 Firefish Gobies
either a Moorish Idol or a Powder blue tang
4 Scarlet/Skunk shrimp
Live sand
maybe 3 Hawian feater dusters
I had a tank with my dad about 10 yrs ago. So I would like to know what the best set up would be. As in filters, lights, protien skimmer, test kits. Please help
I only want to do whats best for the fish.
Thanks a bunch,

My experience with moorish idols is that they are VERY picky about their environment and food. imo they are not a beginners fish. But the others should do fine:cool:

You have to keep in mind, that a good rule of thumb, is one inch of adult fish per 5 gallons of water. That would give you about 6 inches of fish(adult size) for a 30 gallon tank. This rule is not carved in granite, it depends somewhat on the kind of fish you get. IMO the moorish idol and the powder blue tang would not fair too well. The PBT gets up to 8 inches long and needs a lot of swimming room. Both of those are also relatively difficult fish to care for also. Also, I think that 1-2 skunk cleaner shrimp is plenty in a 30. The other choices are ok. Just don't overcrowd. If this is going to be a fish only tank, then normal flourescent lights are fine, I would recommend a skimmer, but it is not necessary. A good hang on filtersuch as an emperor 400 is fine. Test kits should include Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and something to test for salinity. If you decide to get corals, then that is a bit more involved as far as test kits, lighting and filtration.
