I initially battled hlle with my blue hippo and then started feeding him a mix of nori sheet and spiralina soaked in zoacon, garlic and liquid vitamines and it went away.
now I am looking at my flagfin angel and see his lateral lines appearing. I feed the flagfin the same food, but the hlle is getting worse.
I can't figure out what's causing it? help

You're showing an ammonia reading of 10ppm! Yikes! There should be no ammonia present in a fully cycled tank. Are you offering the angel other foods as well? These fish need meaty foods as part of their diet. How long have you had this angel and when did you notice the problem? Any way you can post a picture of the fish?

I also feed the angel mysis and he will eat bits of forumula 1 and puffer mix.
i'll take pics tonight.
I will also add more LR. I have 160lbs fully cured sitting in rubbermain containers.

Do you know why there is ammonia in the tank? Is that reading actually 10ppm?

I added 50lbs more rock 2 days ago and the ammonia reading tonight is 0ppm.
I tried taking pics, but the lateral line is too fine for my camera.
There is no facial damage, just a lateral line damage.
Any suggestions how to deal with this?

HLLE is not damaging, it is when the line is showing. The lateral line is always there, just usually hidden by body mass. If you can hardly see it any more then the fish is healing.

it is difficult to see the lateral line because the fish is very yellow and the part that is eroding down the lateral line is also yellow. It is getting worse. What I meant by damaging is the flesh erosion.

What is going on with the ammonia? HLLE can be caused by more than nutrition deficiency.

But it was at ten before correct? Or was that a typo? Have you ever checked your tank for stray voltage? Do you run carbon? How often do you do water changes?

He added LR directly to the display, I believe. Just a heads up, its best to cure LR before adding to the display. Even if you are getting your rock from a LFS. This can be easily by using a bucked, or rubbermaid tub, an powerhead and a heater (only if necessary to control temp in your house). Allow the rock to cure until you have zero ammonia and nitrates for at least 2 days.

The rock was cured, it was sitting in rubbermain containers with a powerhead and a heater for 6 about 3-4 months.
Sep you are correct, the ammonia was at 10ppm. After I added more LR my ammonia dropped to 0ppm. I checked again tonight and it is still 0ppm.
