I would not call it a "healthy growth"...this type of algae is considered a nuisance algae and it might be a good time to investigate its cause before you have a full blown problem. Also question advice given to you by your LFS if he calls it "healthy growth." It is not toxic or something, but generally an indication that water quality, lighting or something is off.

Diatoms:
Usually appears as a brown dusting or film on the glass, LR, or substrate.
The brown dust that is seen is actually not the algae but dead diatom skeletons linked together. Many times this is the first algae to develop in an aquarium and is often seen within the first four months of setup.
Diatoms need silicates to grow and only last as long as there is a supply in the water. One of the most common ways silicates are introduced to the tank is through the use of tap water. Untreated tap water may contain silicates as well as other unwanted additives to the aquarium. Other means of silicate introduction can be the use of play sand that contains silicates or the curing of LR.

My nuisance algae says lots, just not in English. So I figure I'm still OK :)
(Shhhh....I am hoping it can't read, or has internet access....because actually I am trying hard to kill it, kill it off....)

actualy, id pay to see algae speak fluent english. That would be pretty cool. Id have him memorize all my notes for tests and quizzes and whip him out of my pocket to ask him a question. Hed be super smart too! Wow, now im fantasizing.
So i can get rid of the diatomic earth on my live rocks by not having tap water, or by getting an RO filter? how much do those filters cost? oo and by the way, what does RO stand for?
thanks!

no, mine is still young and there isnt all too much of it. But maybe yours will evolve soon. If it is infact diatoms and not algae, they evolve pretty quickly!

I am the origianl poster, OK, I am still very wet behind the ears (new) MY condi I thought was all but dead, shriveled up to nothing, when it is fully open it is every bit of4-6" across, base is approx 2-3" diameter, longest arm is 6-7", I bought him from the LFS, owner said getting to big for tank gave me a deal - $30, been feeding him daily, either krill or brine through turkey baster, I came home today to see him self-engulfed the size of a 50 cent piece, I freaked...My wife and I went to diner came home and he is back to normal. this was over a 5-6 hour period. MOLA-Thank You for the advise, a true professional, taking my water tomorrow to be tested for things I can't, will be doing water changes with distilled from now on. Next challenge will be getting my wife to aloow me to fork over $$$$ for good lighting

He charged you $30 for a condylactus anemone????? I hate to say it, but that better be one friggin huge condi for that kind of money. Heck, I've seen nice size long tentacles or bulbs for around that price.
FWIW, skip the brine, most is wasted. Go with shrimp, krill, squid, silversides - meatier stuff.
