pistol shrimp no I dont think so BUT you might have a mantis shrimp and yes they can smash glass and you if your not careful.
Can you describe the shrimp that you are seeing so maybe we can ID it as a pistol or a mantis shrimp. also where did your live rock come from fiji, florida, caribean,etc..?
Welcome to the board.

I think its Caribbean. I only saw it twice it hides really well in the rock. I think its green gray has one small hand and it has one bigger claw. It is really fast. So you think there is nothing to worry about?
Has any one ever heard of a pistol shrimp breaking glass?

A pistol shrimp will not break the glass. They are less of a danger to your tank, IF it is a pistol shrimp.

Why don't you google pistol shrimp and mantis shrimp and tell us which one it looks like? If either.

Does he crawl around like a centipede and reminds you of a roach when you spook it if sooo it might be a mantis shrimp i had a hitchhiker like that once and bought a lunar wrasse to hunt him down he did the job but if its a pistol shrimp hes no harm =D

sorry, but i'll disagree with this statement.
my pistol shrimp is responsible for 2 sally light foot and 6 peppermint shrimp deaths. not to mention constantly reshaping my sand bed, covering my sand corals in sand, etc.
and even a mantis has a tough time breaking glass, and usually mainly by the way they break apart clams/crabs etc. if they miss the shell, glass breaks too.

well by color and speed alone i am saying a mantis as they are 10x more likely to be a hitchhicker then a pistol

I just bought some Florida Live rock. I was told not to, but I am a you live you learn person. I bought it with the hopes I would get one of their nasty little mantises. I didn't though, I ended up with a neat looking little lobster in one of the larger pieces and 2 red pistol shrimp. I also got a few rock crabs, but I wanted them because I have a tank set up and am waiting patiently for my peacock mantis. I have heard that there will be stuff coming out of live rock for months, but most of the live rock I have bought before this batch was from the caribean and was freebie free minus a few brittle stars. The Florida Live rock is already growing some facinating sponges and trunicates, so I can't wait to see what else is in store for me.
