HELP!!!! I cant figure out my new filter

I just bought this Cascade filter. It's the external canister kind. I've got it all set up, but when i plug it in, it does not intake any water, and makes a horrible noise. Please help! my poor fish are in unfiltered water... I live in Los Angeles, and if you do too, and you can offer some help, please call me and walk me through this. I'm freaking out, i just dropped 120 on the silly thing and I'd like to get it going...

There should be some kind of priming button or switch that allows the air to release and the water to start flowing into the canister. Without doing this, the motor can burn up if left on for too long. That's probably the noise you're hearing.
Look for the primer on top of the canister. Good luck

Or you can open it and add water to it and put it back and turn it on it should work then...

Take the strainer off the intake and force water into it with a powerhead. It will work the best even after cleaning.

With my cansier filter I have to fill it up with water before I put the top on and plug the hoses in...
