pretty much what i wanted to know if is it a lost cause to try to save the fish or to just let it go and let the tank sit a while, before adding anything. like waiting a month before putting anything in.
If your fish is still alive in the morning take it and everything alive back to the store. If they are a respectable store they will let you. Just tell them your tank isnt ready and you will be back to buy your fish when it is.

thank you that is exactly what i wanted to know. thank you so much, i knew that i didnt know too much about salt water fish or tanks or anything like that although i have had massive freshwater tanks, i knew they were different thats why i need help, thank you so much.

If I were you Id turn out the lights. It causes stress.
P.S. The LFS will tell you any and every thing to get your dimes. In other words do your research here first and buy later.

I agree with above take it back, your biggest problem probably is the way you added it you have to add water slowly into the bag and let it sit. I do it fast still let float for 20, put a cup of tank water in the bag, wait 5 another cup do this about 4 times. Then I take the fish out and put him in don't just dump the bag you don't want the stores water in yours. I set my tank up way to fast also but it worked out well so far. I have a 180gal but 14bags of live sand and 100lbs of live rock and filled the tank with saltwater and let it cycle with a canister filter and a wet/dry filter and heater. Next day I got about 8 cocktail shrimp from safeway and threw those in for 2 days. Took them out the third day, my sister not to smart has a nano and got 2 black clowns and tried to add them with her 2 false perks. The black clowns wouldn't leave the others alone for a second so the temp was right so we put the clowns in my tank tiny little guys not even an 1" but they did fine had the water tested at the store 2 days later everything was where it should be. We have since add many fish and the tank has been fine. I wish I would have waited but I wasn't going to just let the clowns be beaten. So you can rush your tank not suggested but just get them read before putting them in you should be fine.

wow, thanks a bunch, very helpful and i wish i would have known that before and not had the fish store just say ya just do it like the freshwater let 'em sit and add 'em in. im very mad at them and i cant believe that they would know full well the situation of our tank and be just fine sending fish off to die. thats just wrong.

Welcome to SWF.
Lots of us learn the hard way until we find a place like this with lots of people just like us that are willing to help out each other. There is lots of info on here that will help. While you are waiting for your tank to cycle read up on these threads:
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/301033/101-tips-to-beginning-and-maintaining-a-saltwater-aquarium
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/160830/beginners-12-step-program
Then make a wish stock list and post on here to get everyones opinions and it will help out so you don't spend money on animals that can't live together or in your system.

No one has said yet so i will, in this hobby the two things you MUST HAVE and no way around it is MONEY and PATEINCE(sp?) and most of the time the first is easier than the second ! LOL I can work and make money but that pateince thing is a KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!
The longer you cycle your tank the better you'll be b/c that'll give you time to scour these boards and learn everything you can.
P.S. Use RO/DI water only and it'll make the whole process alot easier.

well i think im going to throw in the towel and sell what i have and take back what i can. i have a 120 gal african cichlid tank..which is fine for me. a bearded dragon (i want another and to let them have babies) and i have a 2 year old and a husband in the army thats about to leave for iraq so with all that in mind, im not going to have the patience or time that is needed to truly attend to the saltwater aquarium that would be best for it. so thanks for all the advice.

Don't throw in the towel just yet. Saltwater is a fascinating hobby and it will definitely keep you occupied while your husband is away doing his part to protect all of us. Some of the links that have been posted in this thread will be very helpful to you if you stay in this hobby. It is a very rewarding hobby when you succeed and have your own little piece of the ocean in your living room. My prayers are with your husband. Good luck to both of you.

an ocellaris clown, royal gramma, yellow tang, blue tang. i dont know how many i can have in a 72 gal bowfront. what else could get along with them that are awesome?

Everything would live together, but a 72g is too small for a tang. The 120gal would be better.
