Help! I have a killer coral banded shrimp!

I woke this morning to feed my fish and everything was fine. Everyone was eating. I washed my hands and came back in and found my coral banded shrimp with a firm grasp on my yellow clown dwarf goby. This is the second time my coral banded shrimp has killed in my tank. About 6 months ago it ripped one of my red-legged hermits out of his shell. Is this common behavior? Has anyone else ever had problems with a coral banded shrimp?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

CBS can be vicious .... some people swear by them and others swear at them. Personally, I don't like them at all. :D

The jury is still out on mine. I had afew small newly acclaimated fish disappear, but because I found their carcasses, I am thinking they died for some other reason. I really can't say it is him, but I won't buy any small fish just in case, I haven't lost any larger fish, but then again, they may just be hardier fish. He does chase anything that comes close to his rock, but then so does my coral beauty, so i guess that doesn't mean anything. I actually saw my arrow crab carrying around a dead fish once, and I am sure it had to be dead first because they don't kill fish, so who knows

Hey Sixers,
I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune for getting an aggressive CBS. I placed a question if CBS was safe or not safe and the majority of the responses were that it was safe. My particular CBS was safe and he allowed the Diamond Goby (deceased now d/t jumping out of the tank!! and not be being eaten. ). My CBS only snips at the Damsel that crosses into his territory, but other than that he was good in my tank. I guess it depends on the particular CBS.
Have you been feeding your tank adequately? Could your CBS be hungry? extra hungry?
OR
My conclusion is that it depends on the PErsonality of the CBS!! whether they are aggressive or not.
Search -- Coral banded Shrimp safe or not safe and you can see people's responses.
Take care!!! were you able to save your yellow clown?

no, i wasn't able to save the clown goby. My CBS dragged him into a cave and is eating him. Very disappointing. I do feed the fish and i've had him for a year. Maybe i'll try another one later.

Every book I've read about them in says so. They are carnivorous. If your fish are fast they might not be able to get them. But they might nab a sleeper.
PS, ANY crab can eat a fish if it is hungry and manages to grab it.

Crabs in general are pretty iffy. They will all generally eat whatever they can get ahold of. That's why the crab in this thread has me so worried. :D

Well that may explain what happened to my mandarin goby. He was one of the first fish that I bought and the only survivor out of the bunch. A few days ago I did a water change and found his body. I didn't know it was him at first because his head was gone and his body was totally white.
He was so pretty.

Tank size does also appear to be a potential issue as well, with the CBS becoming more dominant in smaller tanks. However, I would never put one in a tank, because I can't ask the shrimp what size tank it will be content in. FWIW, also note that as these animals grow and become more established, they can become more aggressive. Often it takes time to become an issue.

MIne sticks to killing other shrimp. Never had a problem with him eating fish. I use Formula one and give him half of a frozen chunk, he alsways grabs it from my dropper like clockwork. As long as he is fed well I think they will stay away from moving food. Much easier to pull it off the dropper... :D :D

I have 2 in a 300 and only one is aggressive.... I know they develop territories and he doesn't like it to be crossed.... The other CBS doesn't even think about venturing his way. My clowns seem to play a little game everyday at feeding and mine is usually out alot during the day... Actually I worry alittle if i don't see him out, and usually he's molting, but he likes to latch out at the Tangs and they seem to think it's a game and keep teasing him and keep swimming by.... I keep thinking sooner or later he's gonna luck up and nab one of em....but so far he's come up empty handy.
