HELP! I think I just fried my ballast!

I was turning my skimmer off to add DT's and the end was loose and water hit my ballast which began to smoke! I shut off the power but I think it was too late! If I have to purchase a new one tommorrow,what is the best? I have ice caps and 440watt vho's.

I've heard good things about the Workhorse7, can get them cheap off of ----.. but since you don't have lights now, and probalby need them now.. might have to buy local. I'm not sure in that case... maybe someone else

Ice cap will repair/replace your ballast for you. Contact them.

ICECAP, is great about repairing ballasts, however, there is a possibility yours is still under warranty, and it would be free. If not, it is a flat rate $65 and that includes them mailing it back to you. I've bought broken ballasts before and had them fixed this way.

the way I found ot about this was on sheer accident. A LFS was going out of business and they had a stockpile of about 7 broken icecap ballasts. All 660's that he had used in his tank and for one reason or another they broke. Well, as he was cleaning up shop I asked if I could have them to try and fix them, sure enough he gladly gave them all to me. I sent them all in to icecap, and got 7 working ballasts back in the mail. Needless to say, i sold them . . . to the guy's competitor!!

Yeah I have 2 660 ballasts this way. One off the internet and one from my LFS. Chris is great about trying to do it under warranty, but the fixed cost is outstanding, and extremely reasonable in price.

If you do decide to purchase a new one contact me and we can discuss selling your broken one. I will pay to have it fixed. I'm setting up a 4 tank propagation system, and I need more lights.
