HI all:
Bought this piece containing 2 corals, a pulsing Xenia and a Bright lime green Colt or Finger? Anyone know the identity? Since its covering the xenia, is it a easily proprogatable Coral?
Thanks for your help.
1st timer writing a thread.. sorry if the photo comes out small!!

It looks like a Green Nepthia to me. Could be a Sinularia also. There was a Coral of the Week post about Nepthia last year. If you can find it you might get a positive ID.

It should grow like a weed and keep its color. They are naturally that color (not dyed) Most of the ones I have seen that green (including mine) were listed as from Palau.
If you had to move one I would move the Xenia as the green tree will be much harder to re-attach than the Xenia IME.
I would just leave them together as they seem to of done well thusfar.

Bang and Slowest:
Read through my Puterbaugh Coral book.. and there it is on page 76: Green Finger (Sinularia sp.). Not a nephthea, because a neph has no central stalk, but rather a base. Great advice ! What a reference this site is. Thanks to all. Says it easily transposable. Presume I got to move the Xenia first to take it out of the water to cut.

Is it fraggable?
Yes...I started to explain how but found myself writing a book! So I will leave that for another post.

No...If you are going to frag the green tree then you can easily relocate the Xenia sp at the same time (or thats how I would do it JMO)
Good Luck

Hi SIF:
Just read your post on another thread on netting, real informative, though toothpicking seems easier. How do you propose I move the Xenia, I have one base with many stalks, I guess I should be patient and let the Xenia move on to another rock. Thanks

though toothpicking seems easier

netting is easier for me and I get better results (ie less recovery time on the frag JME) You should try many different ways and use what is easy for and works best for you.
How do you propose I move the Xenia

You could IMO do one of two things
1. gently peel the xenia from the rock, like you would remove a sticker from a piece of glass, being careful not to tear it:) Just like a sticker once you get a piece of it started it should peel up fairly easily. Just go slow and use steady, gentle pressure. Once removed the underside that was attached to the rock will be a lot rougher and harder than the stalk. Use superglue gel to secure it to a new rock....uh ohhh here I go again :D
2. Since there is a decent amount of space between the green tree and the xenia sp you could simply break the rock they are attaced to in half...no glueing picking or worries:yes:
I guess I should be patient and let the Xenia move on to another rock.

You could
Thanks

If I have helped... your welcome

SIF, Once again, thanks for the great advice. I'll think about breaking the rock in 2.
And Moray, got it at my LFS. Stuck out like a neon sign in the tank... saying "buy me", "buy me". Shelled out 79.99, but what the heck.

sounds like a good plan

Not all that bad for it and the Xenia. JMO
As for it being a Rasta leather....well YEAH Sinnularia flexibilis, Sinnularia sp AKA Rasta AKA Spaghetti Leather AKA green tree AKA whatever the LFS wants to call it but I guess you could also look at Litophyton Arboreum. Bottom line IMO is it is definately a nice coral.
