I had/have apstasia in my tank now. I had a peppermint shrimp(it just vanished-but thats another post) while the shrimp was in there the ap's were all withered up like they were dead for 4 months-but, as soon as the shrimp dissappeared they are back and bigger than ever. I am going to try the boiling water in a syringe that I have read on many posts on this. Good luck!

jja,
Be prepared for something else. I also tried the boiling water trick on mine, but the problem is this: by the time you get the syringe/dropper of boiling water down to the aiptasia in your tank, the water may no longer be hot enough to do any damage. I must have tried that ten times before I figured it out.
I had the best luck with kalkwasser. Did the trick the first time. End of aiptasia. No new break-outs.

Okay guys ready for a really cool answer to ALL you aptaisia probs.
Here we go.
IF the aptaisia is small we know the hardest part is actually stabbing the ba$tard. It shrivels up to that pile of goo before the needle is in... then we are adding kalk to the water.... so :
For small aptaisia ane. Here is what I do.
1) touch it. Make it shrivel up really small.
2) cover it either with 2 part epoxy or super glue gel. The idea here is to completely cover the anenomie without ANY left in the open. It smothers and dies without propagation. If you use the 2 part epoxy make sure to cover the anenomie completely with the 1st piece.... no time for seconds. Problem solved.
For big anenomies:
You need turkey baster, tweezers, kalk, shrimp.
1) soak a piece of srimp or brine in a very thick kalk water... make sure the shrimp is heavily saturated with kalk.
2) feed the tank very well (WITH NON KALK SHRIMP>>>> USE REGULAR FOOD ONLY) so no shrimp or fish will steal food from your tweezers.
3) sqeeze all air out of turkey baster so you can suck in water at a moments notice (without blowing air or water into the tank.)
4) feed the aptaisia its last meal of kalk soaked shrimp... since it is food the apt. will grab ahold of the shrinp and suck it in. ****be ready with the turkey baster 'cause the apt. will quickly spit the food back out and you don't want to poison anything else in your tank****
5) when the apt. spits out the food suck it up with the turkey baster.
6) Its too late... watch the apt. disolve before your very eyes.
7) cover that spot on the rock with 2 part epoxy or super glue gel just because.... consider it a little head stone for the SOB.
Good luck I have seen both methods work flawlessly!
