Help me build a kid's tank!

OK, so no pygmy for me. I'm not sweatin' it, I have enough stuff planned for my reef. And I'm going to keep my stance on the flame angel.....I really think he would be too stressed in a 25 gallon tank. Add that to their habbit of chowing down on corals, like you mentioned, and..... nope. Not gonna.

yeah, there are a lot more fish you can have in a 25 that will be happy, and wont eat all the coral. Some other fish recommendations would be a royal gramma, yashia goby, blue reef chromis, and possibly a yellow corris wrasse, but not if you have a sixline...

Wait - you sure you've got enough time to help both him and me build a tank? Granted you're doing mine cyber-ly, but you KNOW how demanding I can be.

You sure are a swell, giving guy.

Hardly. I just love being the center of attention. Remember, in the end...it's all about MEEEEE!

Back to this thread: I picked up his water, which is now hanging out in my garage. I'll be doing the teardown/reboot this Friday, if all goes well, and I'm printing out a chart of all the fish suggestions everybody has contributed here. I'm really grateful to everyone who threw their ideas in the pool....it will limit him to the right fish for this sized tank (consider this: he wanted a sweetlips originally!) but it will still give him lots of things to choose from. The whole idea here is to let him think he actually has a choice!
I know he's going to be bumming that his tank will be going through a full cycle again, but them's the breaks. He'll live....and if I've done my job right, so will his fish.

Nova, Why not Aragonite for the substrate in place of sand for the substrate. A bit more buffering ability in a small system.
I just wanted to tell you that as it turns out, I found a spare 10 lbs of arragonite left over from my 100g changeout! I'm going to use this and mix it with some oolite white, I think. Should be a pretty nice combo.

and see if he wants crabs or snails.
If snails (of course not all at once unless tank can supply food for them
10 NASS
10 cERITH

4 Turbos
1 Margarita
If crabs I guess they got some nice olored dwarf ones lol....

U can add some cool shrimp
A fire shrimp
3-5 sexy Shrimp
Pom Pom crab.
Thatll give him a lot to look at
Come on now, you know you can't keep hermits and ceriths together... hermits love cerith shells. The wrasse will dine on sexy shrimp... and maybe the pom pom, maybe the fire shrimp too..
Edit: My new and improved fish combo for this tank:
Yellow assessor basslet, yashia goby (or mated pair) and candy stripe pistol, hectors goby (after tank has been going 2 months), rainfords goby (after tank has been going 2 months), 2 neon gobies, 2 gold nosed eviota gobies. You'll have a good mix of colors that don't tax the bioload... Granted some of these fish arent cheap i.e. yellow assessor.
You could always swap out the yellow assessor and yashia/pistol combo for 1 or 2 yellow head jawfish or blue spot jawfish as long as you have a good top. Jawfish are so comical lol.

Yellow assessor basslet.
Uh....no, I don't think so!! Not unles someone is willing to give me one....or pay for it, anyway!
It may be a hardy fish, but this is a KID'S tank, and a kid who isn't the best at upkeep sometimes.......so nothing over 50 bucks, if you ask me. I've already accepted the fact that I will be doing weekly maint. on this tank, and I'm OK with that, but I'm not going to be stressing out over an expensive fish in the tank in case something happens, y'know?
OTOH, I wouldn't mind one for MY tank.....

Get pod eaters.. let the tank establish then throw in a hector's goby, rainford's goby, 2 neon gobies, 2 gold nosed eviota gobies and call it a day... those don't really require feeding to live as long as there are lots of micro-organisms in the tank.
