hi. i understand what you are saying. the common algae in my kinda new 5-6 month tank is the brown kind. my hair algae actually just went away so all i have is slime on the sand bed + the brown. sorry for the confusing posts. the slime is just relatively new and the brown algae is there because most of my first CUC died off, hence me getting a new one. my sand sifting star (before i took it back cause it was bad) kept my sand bed clean of algae cause he sifted it. now that all i have are rock/glass algae snails my sand is getting browner again. so i would say that there was always the brown...a usual amount like every tank would have + some new slime that im taking care of.
