so ive been looking to get a nano, id like to give it to my girlfriend as a housewarming present cause she loves my tank and has been talking about getting one. Ive narrowed it down to two, and was hoping for your input.
first one is a 29 gal regular tank with 2x65 watt pc, its isnt running but comes with the stand, protien skimmer and hob filter system. so basically just needs the water and livestock
(id post the link but i know we cant even though there is no sale thread on here) for $200
the other tank is a 14 galbiocube up and running with a blue lobster and some live rock no stand for $100
then there is also a 6gal jbj nanocube with 54 watts for $175
im leaning for the 14 gal i feel like it would be a good starter tank, plus everything is up and running, and i think im gonna offer him $80 cash and come pick it up. ALL COMMENTS WELCOMED! ( I live in florida)

well i got the 14, i couldnt turn down a tank already running and it was a pretty good deal, he gave me all the timers and everything he used also with some silversides for the lobster, tank definitly needs something swimming in it so i think im gonna look at a pair of clowns but no im a nano reefer! and it has green star polyps in there so theres my reefer part..haha

i dont think he will stay in there long, hes always hiding. Could i keep any sort of anemone in there with the 2x24W lights? i think she wants to do the typical paired clownfish and anemone.

I'd steer away from the anemone, lighting aside I think the size of the tank is just inadequate. I have a clown hosting a frogspawn in my nano lol. Good thing about clowns is that they will always find "something" to host with...and that "something" has a tendency to not be the anemone in a lot of cases anyway :D

I like the 14 gallon. But you should bring the Blue Lobster back to your LFS. I wouldn't get an Anemone, just my thoughts.

I started out 5 yrs ago in this hobby with a 10 gal. I am now running a 3 gal pico and just love it.
Back to your tank, skip the anemone, I had one in my 10 gal with PC lights, it did well, split and all. The clowns would not go near it though, it seems these percs don't really know what to do with them. They much prefer the mushrooms and they are way easier to deal with too. So go with some mushrooms for sure.
Some other easy corals are green star polyps but can become a pain if you let them grow on everything, I love the way they sway in the water and their color is nice too. Some people do well with xenia, I seem to not be able to keep this stuff alive but its also very pretty the pulsing of them.
Make it a nice softie tank and it will look amazing.
If you want something other than your regular mushrooms here is a pic of my absolute favorite. They are Florida Ricordeas, you can get Yumas too but Floridas are my favorite. The pic is of my purple ones with pink mouths and the orange with green mouth. Very easy to keep and grow and very beautiful in color too.
Good Luck

from my experience clarkii or seabea clowns seem to be the most willing to host anything that slightly resembles an anemone. in my 28g my clarkii pair host to my toadstool leather, my xenia longata, and my colt coral. in the past ive had the clarkiis host to frogspawn and hammer corals as well.
the nice thing about corals over anemones is the corals dont MOVE! anemones have the problem of moving to where they want, which usually isnt where you want them to be. also they will sting other corals or end up in a pump or in your overflow.
good luck with then new tank!

look at my avatar. those are Armor of gods zoanthids. that is when my picasso was a baby. now i have a pair both hosting those zoas. you can try long tentacle zoas, duncans, green hairy mushrooms..its kind of hard for you since your tank doesnt really have strong lighting..if i were you id upgrade lighting to a 70watt metal halide sunpod. then you can try frogspawns and torch corals, which your clowns would most likely host.

oh and try to get what ever you choose for the clowns to host before you get the clowns..this way when they enter the tank they have a better chance to go straight into their new home
