Help me find this coral please...

I found this picture in a thread recently of Blue Star Polyps. The picture was posted by Goober_Hunter. If anyone knows the latin name or other aliases of this coral please let me know. Also if you know where I can get one...I couldn't seem to find one on SWF.com. Any information would be great thanks.

Those look great, they might not even be as annoying as green star polyps when they overtake everything.

alright you have a couple options for blue.
Clavulariidae
Cespitularia
but the ones you are reffering to are called Baby/ Blue Clove Polyps
not star polyps
in the Clavulariidae species.

I found them on google pics now...The term "blue clove polyp" did the trick. Haven't found Latin name yet, but i'm working on it.

Typically you might find it as Clavularia sp., thought I've seen some places advertise it as Sansibia sp. I'm not sure which it is, but either way I've never found a species name.
It grows extremely fast and I've found little patches all over my tank. It just seems to pop up out of nowhere. I think it might be because I've fragged my colony above the water and the rotary tool chopped up tiny pieces and the water flow scattered them all over. There's got to be at least a dozen patches growing where I didn't intentionally plant it. Good coral to fill up small empty spaces.
A lot of the LFS around me gets these in once in a while. You can ask around your LFS or I have some for sale if you can't find any locally. Shipping would be a killer though.

I started out with a small rock of it and like viper, it continues to pop up everywhere in my tank, it is one of my fav corals, adds alot of blue to a tank.

Thank you all so much. It's been so long since I have been on SWF.com and it's a real pleasure to see that everyone is still so helpful. I found a place to get these little snowflakes and they will be a part of my seascape soon. Thanks everyone.

yeah, mine have grown extremly fast. every peice of live rock in my tank has them.
glad you found them, hope you enjoy them as much as i do..

it seems the under my MH they are much bushier and bluer. I have some in another tank under T5's and they are less blue, but still grow like crazy.

thanks, puffer. what wattage of MH? how high in tank do you have them?

The nicest piece i have grew its self at the very top of my tank under 250's. The first piece i bought is about mid tank. I also have another piece in another tank under T5's

I am so excited...they will be here on Saturday. My lighting is 192 watts of PC by currentUSA (38g tank). I have had no problem growing anything.

Good luck, post pictures when you get it, I will be ordering some when I get back from our vacation. Wanted to order before we left, but decided I'd wait. Did you order the small or large frag of them?
