Help me out here please!?

Hey everyone, so we moved to an old house like 120 years old or somthing like that, and everything is old and origingal, like the pipes, and I dont have an RO/DI unit! So I dont have any corals, and probably won't until I get an RO/DI because when I turn the water on it comes out brown for a couple seconds! My dad said its from the rusty pipes, and rust+coral=disaster.
So, looks like im not getting coral, until I get a job, and this just sucks.

Also, my new lights are causing alot of evap. over 6 hours the water level goes down almost a centimeter! My tank is open top, i'm going to try putting a house fan blowing water surface to try and help, and I hope it does, I hate topping up twice a day! New T5's not doing much other than growing fuzzy bergundy coloured (algae?) everywhere! I want some coraline, I was told it will grow under this lighting..it will won't it?
I'm such an idiot, and I suck at this! It's so frustrating withought money, but i'm not giving up, but I need stimulation! Seriously, it gets so boring withought anything new to do. And it's an eyesore, but I need to remember..Patience, is the key to life

And I suck at patience
Thank you all, I look up to you guys so much
You all have amazing tanks!!
(hmm, I dont know why the title is help me out please... probably because I typed it in, but I changed my mind! There isn't a question, just a story!)

Rust isn't really the problem, there are corals growing on the rusty hulls of old ships. Its the rest of the crap in the water you have to worry about. Corraline will grow under about any type of light so I doubt thats the issue. I would look at doing something about your water. If it's chlorinated that would prevent the growth if you have enough evaporation you are adding water every day.

Ouch I feal your pain. I would look for a local place were you can by filterd water. I have a market that sells water that's ro/di with uv. It's a self serve station . I bring my 5 gal bukets. 38 cents a galon, cheep. Before that I buy water buy the galon. That helped out alot. Hope this helps.

I'm giving up on SW for now. I've dreaded saying that, but it doesnt feel all that bad. I'm not throwing anything away, i'm just going FW in my 75 G until I have my own place. So like in 5 Years! LOL i'm upset but there isn't anything I can do, and i'm not staying SW without corals so, I guess when I get the 75G FW up ill do a build thread :) I'm not leaving SWF.com I love this site, you'll see me around on posts! Thanks guys!

With water that bad you can't keep freshwater fish either. You must have good water to keep anything alive, brown isn't good for you to drink either...so talking your dad into an RO unit may not be as hard as you think.
A water sofener won't do as good a job of cleaning up the water for drinking as an RO unit will.

Sorry for your troubles. Just wanted to mention that adding fans will most likely cause more evaporation!

All in all, I think i'm better off without fish for now until we do get an RO/DI Unit, than you can look forward to some tank builds :) I know that it takes alot of time, effort, and knowledge to have a succesful aquarium. I would say I have a good knowledge, i've been studying aquariums, set-ups, procedures, etc.. for about 5 years now, and I do have the effort, I'm just lacking money, equipment, and time ATM. So it's best if I stop for a while, until i'm better prepared. Don't get me wrong, I absolutly LOVE SW and i'm NOT giving up, I just can't afford it right now, in more ways than one. I Don't want to put living creatures into a synthetic environment, unless its with perfect conditions, so i'll wait. Summertime brings alot more options; like JOBS!
