Help me pick my Mom's Christmas present!

Ok, this is what I've found. All of these items are new. Which one would you pick? The prices include shipping.
Biocube 14 180.49
Jbj 12 179.99
JBJ 12 with stand 210
Jbj 24 with stand 268 -- this is a little out of my price range. I would have to get my sister to go in with me and I don't know if she would be up for that.
Now remember, this is a Christmas present. Which one would you buy for someone else? (We all know that if we were going to buy for ourselves we would buy the biggest one!
)
If my mom wanted to put more fish or corals in the 12 or 14 gallon tank with the clownfish, could she?

for sure the 24 if you can get it. more room equals happier mom! it would def be better for her to have a jbj 24

Anything but Aquapod. Hubby said he may buy me a new nano tank so I have to do my research to see which one I would get. I may look into the bio cube and make him get me the 29 gal.
I'll save you the trouble of research; I was going to do a Red Sea Max or a Solana, then Rotary and Bos found me a Finnex (30 gal). Way better than both of the afore mentioned. I should be receiving it in a couple days.

Patrick, I am sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention. But did you read the whole thread. The OP stated that she does not want to spend a lot of money. $200 being about maximum. I just don't see how recommending a $600 dollar tank is useful to her. That is all

That reply was really for Tiff's thread about doing research for a 29. I wasn't recommending it to Nina&Noah, I saw their price limit.

I would say a 24 or 28 nano at least. I had a 12g AP and it was fine but I had to do frequent water changes. Keep that in mind with a nano. You can't neglect it as you can with a large tank. They do not have the volume it that it requires to keep water params stable.

You could also hire someone decent to go do maintenance every month or so on her 75. Just another suggestion.

I have a biocube and love it, even when my ballast died for no reason I had no problems getting it replaced for free by the company! They shipped a new one right away. Plus I like that it is glass and very hard to scratch when cleaning the glass (Vs other acryllic models)

I have thought of that, however it would cost too much to fix that tank up. It has no live rock, and it has crushed coral instead of live sand. Plus, I'm almost positive they used copper to kill an ich infestation a few years ago. They don't remember what it was, but it turned the water blue. The filter doesn't work properly either. The pump sucks the water in the fuge faster than it is being returned so it ends up blowing bubbles.
I still haven't decided what to do. My sister thinks this is a horrible idea. She says it would just be something that frustrates my mom when things start to die again. Supposedly that is what happened with the 75. My sister and mom got frustrated when they couldn't get anything to live. However, that was years ago, and I know more to help her now. I just can't decide and I am running out of time!

If I do decide to get the tank, I'm leaning towards the biocube 14. That way I could buy her some live rock and sand to go with it.
Or maybe I could just buy it for myself and forget Christmas! I've always wanted a sea horse tank!

once again i dont think a 14 gallon will be big enough. i cant imagine that clown is small. with live rock and sand and corals that clown will have little room to swim. i know you have a budget but maybe someone else in your family can help you out and it can be from both of you?

Yeah, that is why I talked to my sister. I thought if we could split the 24 gallon tank then she would get a stand also. Then we could also get her the live rock and sand to go with it. She would have the complete set up! It was a brilliant idea until my sister stomped all over it.
How long do clown fish live anyway?

well yea a 24 would be a pretty good size. they can live pretty long i dont know of a set life span. but i have heard of some living 10 years. in an ideal setting obviously they will live longer. just depends on the environment. but if she really wants a clown fish why not just trade it in for a smaller one? or is she just attached to this one?

Yeah, she is attached to this one. Everyday she goes and turns the light on for him. He comes out from his little corner to be fed. She talks to him while he eats and then he goes back to his corner. I laughed last time I was over there, because I think he actually looks like an old man. I didn't know fish could look old, but this one actually does. I will have to take a picture when I'm there for Christmas.

well just get the biggest tank your budget will allow. you could always get just a glass tank. that would be cheaper than an all in one. you could buy a filtr and a power head and then the rock and sand.
