I woke up this morning and my big momma long tentacle anemone was sucked into one of my powerheads. I turned off the powerhead and He is still firm and moving. but he won't let go of the screen part! it is pulled all the way down into his body  . All of his tentacles are probably wreked. Has any body else had this problem and if so would he live or is he a gonner. My clown is pissed that his home now looks like a trailer park after a tornato.

Well I just got my LTA a week ago tomorrow and so far nothing like that has happend, he did just eat a hermit though. My question is how do they get sucked in? Dont you have a like a plastic screening over it, or can they still get sqeezed through that? I have read on the boards that they can still surive, but like I said I have not had that happen.

yea he's still attached to the screen he got all tangled up in it it doesn' tlook like he got chopped up

Maybe he will be ok! Someone who has experinced this before should write on here! Is your powerhead low or high in the tank? How did it get into it?

its way on the top of the tank its a 160GPH. the anemone is like 10in round and when he extends himself hes like 1 1/2 foot long then with the powerheads filter that hangs down and the suction and his tenticals just I guess sucked him in. He finally let the screen go and the clown is in him again his tenticals are pretty meesed up. but the body seems to be in ok shape I guess nobody had this happen to them so no advise from anyone :( . I'll plaay the waiting game and keep close eye on him.

I hate losing things to the powerheads. I've lost several fish that way. And I've only been doing this a couple of months. I can't find any kind of "screen" to go over my powerhead, so I am thinking of inventing one. The lfs guy tried to sell me some kind of filter to go over the powerhead that was about 8 inches long, and as big around as a coke can. What it was for I have NO idea. I guess it would keep the fish out. But I don't know what it was filtering out of the water. I hope your LTA is okay. Let us know.

NTV more than likely they tried to sell you a prefilter attachment. Which if you are having filtering problems may help. It couldn't hurt to have another filter anyways....

Perhaps not all is lost. I had a bubble tip get itself sucked into a powerhead last year. I noticed this first thing in the morning so no telling how long he had been in there. I worked for quite I while to seperate it from the screen but finally had to cut a portion of him out of the powerhead screen. It was not a pretty sight. I placed him in some water from the tank and thought it was a goner. After about a hour and quite a bit of slime, I cleaned it off and put it back into the tank. My two false Percs tended to him like nurses and to make a long story short....He made it!
To encourage you even more. I just discovered three days ago that the same bubble tip has spilt!

I've been thinking of adding a power head.(A cheapy I got with an under gravel system.) Only I've read about creatures getting sucked in. Has anyone tried those filter sacks with a draw string they sell in LFS? They've got an assortment of sizes...

It's not real pretty, but does work, find 2 fish nets that are the size of your powerhead, use cutters to cut the metal loop of the net so you have two pieces of mesh net with the top loop sewn in. string either a zip tie or a piece o string through these. should look like a little pouch now, put it over your power head and draw it up tight. make a small cut for the stem where the water flows out. make it small and stretch the net over it. this doesn't impede the water going in or out of the ph, but it won't let anything get sucked into the ph. I have only found the fish nets in either green or white, no black yet. The green doesn't look to bad. hope this helps.:)

Thanks he only lost a couple of tenticals and is eating which is good. I went out and got a sponge, like whats on a prefiler overflow I found some that fit the powerheads and hopefully this will keep them out of it. Just one one more thing to keep clean :D. Thanks for all of your comments sorry I paniced

I use 802's for extra circulation. The attachement comes with the big black cover a foam filter and a white cover for the foam to be placed in inside the black cover. I take the smaller white cover and put it on the intake of the ph. I have to take a lighter and heat the top of the cover in order for it to fit. It only takes a couple of months for the coraline algae to grow over the white part. It is much smaller than the black thing and works better than a bag. If I was any good at posting pics I would post one. My pics are always to big. You can find some pics with this setup on my homepage. Good luck with your LTA!

I strongly recommend using maxi-jets for your powerheads. There are other good ones, but I think pound for pound these are great. They have a very fine screen-type piece that fits onto the intake. I've never had anything get sucked into any of them. I have hermits that crawl right over them and fish that swim next to them. It is also advisable to place powerheads in areas that an anemone can't easily get to. The only powerhead I have at the bottom of the tank is behind the rockwork. I have the others positioned in various areas to create different circulation patterns throughout the tank. Try raising your powerhead up or moving that particular one behind your lr. If the anemone is eating, that's a good sign. Hope everything goes well.

I can't get the ph any higher any higher and it would be out of the tank The one he got sucked into was behind my overflow way up in the corner (no clue why he was up there but he did). He's doing alot better he only lost acouple of tenticals but the clown is feeding him and hes moving so I think he'll be alright
