Octopus HOB series.
Be sure to get something that is rated for 100 gallons or more (that's just my advice).
Research it thoroughly...I know you will but I feel obligated to say that.

if you want to keep space in your sump, go for the warner marine h1 or h2 hob. or even a deltec mce600 since theres no price limit. but even with these beasts of a skimmer, im pretty sure the vertex in-80 will beat it

thanks for ur input keep it going also when I was thinking about it this morning i should put a limit that i want to spend on the skimmer so I guess that would be around th $200 range or so

well with that range, the vertex in 80 is really hard to beat especially for a 10g sump. i have a 10g sump as well, so thats what i will probably be going with

well the first skimmer I used for a 10g sump/30g was the seaclone 100 about 5yrs ago and regardless of what people said it worked well for me and all the time. it was noisy and pretty much non adjustable (it was but only worked well with air valve wide open). you'll obviously want to pass on this option

then I used the coralife 125 needle wheel. It was a carry over from another tank. didn't fit the sump well (designed for a seaclone) and like all CL125 way to finicky with water levels and adjustments but I already had it. pass on this

next was an octopus ps120 which is almost like the current NWB-110 except for the top transition (I also got the updated needlewheel). the current NWB-110 runs $180 and if you want to go overboard and get the NWB-150 its $195. either adequate for a 30g/10g sump regardless of what your trying to keep

and currently (and final) I use the SWC Xtreme 160 cone. Its $275 (was $250 when I got it) and WAY overkill but I had to have it. If you have a month to wait Octopus is coming out with an XP1000 sump saver cone with bubble blaster 1000 pump which specs out very simularly and is priced pretty simularly. that would be a comparative option to the SWC 160 cone.

Now more practicle and probably better suited would be the SWC xtreme 120 cone which is $225 (120 far left, 160 far right. those bubble magus in between would work as well)

Vertex work very well but the pump reliability is still horendous IMO(lots of people have began swapping them out for tunze hydrofoamers, Sicce psk-2500 and bubble blasters). Octopus OTP pumps dont perform as well but are much more reliable( and meshable if need be up performance). the Atman/viaAqua pumps on the SWC/bubble magus/eshopps perform just as well depending on wheel and are reliable. I'd go with the SWC 120 cone myself if I had around $200 to spend.

Not to hijack your thread. But if you were looking for a nice HOB skimmer for a 75 gallon tank. What brand would work well for a reasonable price between 100-200 dollars?
