I am setting up a saltwater Tank!
Please be aware I have done mounds of research!
:)
I keep feeling I am forgetting something!
I have my tank, with efficent heater, light source and temperature control.
Also a PH test kit.
Ammonia tester
Sand and plants,
protein skimmer
hydrometer
salt mix
Am I missing anything? :)
Please let me know!
Do you think this will be a good tank for my seahorses?
Yes, No?
Also I am a bit confused with the salt mix .. .
Any help!
Or information will do!!

Hi and welcome. First off, what size tank is it?? I dont use a heater as seahorse tanks should be kept at lower temps, under 75-76 degrees. The lower the better. What kind of lights do you have??
Ditch the hydrometer and get a refractor. you will need precise SG readings for your horses.
I dont see any powerheads or mechanical filteration for your tank-either a hob filter or a canister filter??
I also dont see any live rock on your list
What confuses you about the salt. please tell more.

Well, I have just asked a professional about the tank and heating system etc.
They said it was good! :)
So no worries about that! :)
Really?
I don't suppose you could make a list of what I need? :)
As for the salt mix!
I am confused!
You see the tank is 13 gallons, but It is okay for the seahorses I want.
But salt mix now is confusing me!
This is due to when you clean your tank out on a regular bases you take out 10-15% of the water!
But how do you add the right amount of salt and how do you add the salt water back in?

13 gal is to small for lrg species horses. They will be 6 to 8 inch as an adult. Horses need a tank that is 3x thier length in height. so an 18 to 24 inch tall tank.
Saltwater must be premixed in a bucket for at least 24 hrs prior to water change. It must match temp and SG of your tank water.

Here is the thread I wrote on setting up a basic tank https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/301907/sh-tank-basics
Others have added to it so read down. There is also a correction on keeping kellogi in a 15 gal as they can get rather lrg 8 inch plus long.
Here is my old thread https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/249085/my-new-seahorses These have passed on, I had a filter malfuntion and lost them both. They were in a 37 gal tall tank and even with water changes and meds the stress of broken filter was too much for them.
