HELP! My Rio pump just died!

My RIO 3100 HP just died and I need to quickly run to the store and buy a new pump. Can anyone recommend a good reliable pump for a 75 gallon tank??
Thanks!!

I think Rio would be anyone's last choice. I have a new kind of pump, so I can't give any info on that. But definately don't get another Rio.

I had a RIO, which died after a week, now I run a Mag 7 for my return pump and I have whatever comes with the Euroreef on my skimmer. Both have run flawlessly (sorry about the spelling, but I'm wathcing the dodgers get their buts whipped and drinking beer!). If you just need a power head, I second the maxi jet recommondation, thats what I use in the display tank itself, again with no problems. IMO RIO=BAD, MAG=GOOD, but thats just me:)

My Euroreef has a Sedra and my return is Mag7. No problems with either of so far but I've only been running them for 5 months so I really can't comment on reliabilty.

i would recomend the mag drive also i have 4 and no problems yet, does maxi make one strong enough for a return pump? just checking cause i would like to know because they are good ph.

Well, I spent all day trying to find a store that carried a good selection of pumps and ended up driving 45 minutes away to a "Not so LFS". Ended up getting a Magdrive Model 9.5 rated for 900 gph. My Rio was rated for 1000 gph but this thing was a lot more powerful because it blew my spray bar right out of its socket:eek: My flow is significantly better now but there's a burnt smell in my family room now from the Rio. I had heard the horror stories but never had a problem up to today. That's the first and last Rio for me! The guy at the store was telling me that he only sells the Rio because of the price but tells everyone to go with the Magdrive if they can afford it. He said I should get 3-5 years out of this pump as opposed to 6-12 months out of the Rio.
Well, thanks to everyone for the informative responses...I'm a happy camper now and so are my critters:happy:

I have one of Rio's new pumps, an HF12. I have had no problems with it and it flows 750gph at 1' head. It was less expensive and was actually rated at a higher flowrate than the MagDrive 7 (I think) that my LFS had.
