You'll need to test your water and post the results. What size tank do you have? How long has it been set up? Is it a reef tank or fish only with live rock?
List as much as you can it will make it easier for people to help you out.

it sounds like you have a algea break out for what ever reason... test your water but for the most part your nitrates and phosphate test wont be correct do to the algea eating it all up.
Do you have a protien skimmer? what kind of filtration are you running?
what kind of live stock do you have? size of tank ect...
i would keep your lights off
get another water change ready
run carbon and filter floss

Sorry I had a late night last night. Is there sunlight hitting your tank? The algae in your tank will grow very fast if it is.
If you do have sunlight hitting the tank you'll need to find a way to stop it.

+1 to the carbon. if its just green water carbon should clear it up in a couple days.
is the water green or do you have algea growing on the rocks also?
how old are your bulbs?

First I want to thank you all for your help... yes I do have sunlight near the tank but its not direct sun..I was leaving my lights on alot .. I did a water change and cleaned the filter..i have kept the light off for a few days and kept the blinds near the tank closed and this evening I turned the lights on to see what was going on and it cleared up alot.. Thanks again for your help!!! I think it was too much lighting.. and nothing is growing on the rocks the water was just green but getting much better. thanks again for all the help.

Oh H2OLUVR I feel your pain! I had the same thing happen to me not too long ago. You can read my massive thread on here somewhere.
Come to find out it was too much stuff in my sand. I cleared it up over night by siphoning the sand (not too much)
Not sure if your having the same situation. I will try and find that thread for you
