I find the males to have a "stronger" less "reedy/warbly" voice, the call of the females seems to almost have a questioning sound to it. (But maybe that's just me) :)

This bird does have a kind of questioning voice, but it also sounds really young, so that could be it.

He is very handsome and I also had to go with Bongo!
The males will be much more vocal in general.
The bar pattern that TX mentioned will also be visible on the tail feathers of females, though on a fancy, it doesn't always mean female.
This guys cheek patches are very bright, too, and the males are generally more brightly colored.
I like the name Sophie best, but....We had a cockatiel named Paul who ended up Paulie after he laid an egg!!

I like kiwi and starburst.
I had a pearl cockatiel named Sunny. Thought she was a girl. underneath her tail feathers there were no stripes. I figured she was a girl. Then she started nesting and laying eggs.
What did you decide?

I still haven't decided. I REALLY like Sophie, but I think it might be a boy, plus I usually don't like people names on pets. I think my second choice is Kiwi.

The bird won't know Sophie is a (shhh) female name :)
If you can come up with a more masculine spelling?
Truth is, if you already have a male, this bird might very well exhibit female behaviors.

We're pretty sure it's a girl so Sophie it is. She just looks like a Sophie.

I'd have to say its a boy.
Usually cheek patches are used to --- cockatiels. The brighter it is, its a male. And if you see them in a group you can definatly see the color distinction.
I vote for Pickle!

that is true of the greys but the latinos and pearls along with all the other color variation including the white faced and teals there is no distinction that can be made by the orange patch on the face.
The greys is a deffinate male or female depending on the color of the grey and the brightness of the orange.
