The 20g would have come with T-5's. He's on his way to the lfs to get screwed becuase his dad wanted 150$ for it max. I couldn't do that. They're going to give him a bunch of bad advice. I feel so terrible. Hopefuly it'll turn out alright.

Ya, 20 gal tall sounds like a good design for a nano tank. First off, you'll always need more lights than should be required for a nano (b/c its tall). Second, a skimmer shouldn't be a deciding factor, as skimmers are not necessary for nanos. I'm a firm believer in the BioCube series, stock and modded I think they make fantastic fish tanks. Plus, with the bent glass on the biocube, it has a nicer fit and finish.

Well he's not buying it. I personaly like my 20g. But anyways, I think the 29g Oceanic BioCube would be the best choice for him. Thoughts?

Get the CUBE!!!!!! Way better IMO in the long run. You dont have to buy a filter, they look way nicer, cubes are easier to maintain, comes with lighting and hood, comes with a pump, and it will probably cost you way less in the long run. I would personally get an Oceanic Bio-Cube (which i have) or a JBJ (have heard great things). If you want SPS in your tank you can even get MH put in the hood!!! Your best choice is to get the cube is better also because, you will spend less time trying to find filters, pumps, etc..., you can adjust flow, and i have mentioned this EVERYTHING IS BUILT IN!!!

you can actually buy a skimmer for nano tanks that are 2 inches wide and 6 inches tall that fit inside the filter chambers. The best is "Saphire Aquatics". They dont have one for a 14g cube YET, but they have skimmers for larger cube models.

GET THE CUBE. It has included filtration, lighting, adn a pump to run it all. You could modify the cube a lot easier than the 20 high tank. Everything needed to add onto the 20 high to make it work how you want it too, is included on the cube price. There is absolutely nothing you could do to a 20 high that you cant do to a cube. you should research what is included on the cubes out there, and the 20 g, adn then make your own decision instead of being swayed by a friend or by the people here. learn a little, dont just trust people. Make your own choice.

I would personally by a all-in-one JBJ nanocube. This one has everything to get started. You have the filtration built-in. and you have enough lighting for starting. And later on you can upgrade your lighting if you need to. Get the 24gal nanocube by JBJ! Google (JBJ nanocube) it for more info. It comes with nightmoon LED lights as well. Awesome tank.
I dont think you need a skimmer for such a small tank, as long as you do your water changes.
